Whether those immediately above disapprove of JRM's manner, appearance and beliefs is hardly important. Such comments are somewhat childish. His knowledge of Parliamentary practise is second to none and he's quite right - in normal circumstances a vote against a PM of this number would lead to resignation. Admittedly, these are not normal times, however, the point made remains the same. The "ordinary" backbenchers have made clear their objections to TM's plans. Will she listen - probably not.

But he’s an ar$e.

I don’t doubt he’s very clever, and well versed in matters of Parliamentary practise. However, to the vast majority of people he seems detached from the modern world, archaic, and so far up his own backside he probably thinks the sun comes out when he opens his mouth.

No offence intended, but anyone who calls their sixth child “ Sixtus ” deserves all the criticism and mockery they receive...

They actually deserve more mockery. And a good tar-and-feathering.

Trouble is, he's such an intellectually arrogant ***** that I suspect he'd just roll his eyes at the unfortunate ignorance of the little people.

There is no room in politics for such people. To my huge disappointment the former clown known as Boris also now falls into the feck off and live somewhere else camp. From comedy upper-class twit to dangerous, self-serving, shallow, treacherous twont in such a short space of time. Shame!, they cried!, shame!

i can see it playing out this way too as i dont think "no deal" will be allowed to transpire.

May was only a swing of around 42 votes away from half of her party having no confidence.......not good.

If that happened in France Paris would be on fire, here there'll be a bit of whingeing on Facebook

.

He has a 12K+ majority. His constituents appear to disagree with your character assassination.

And a swing of only 2.1% in the referendum would have avoided all this.

but that's how democracy is supposed to work , millions can vote and if it's one vote over one side wins

I'd love to know the numbers for those marching that didn't actually vote because they couldn't be arsed

My point was we are stuck with leaving the EU because it was a democratic vote and JRM et al have reminded us time and again of that fact, yet he fails to accept an equally democratic, and in fact more determinative than the referendum, vote.

I say determinative because a referendum is only a recommendation to government whereas last night's vote by the 1922 Committee's own rules prevents a further challenge for 12 months.

If JRM wants to take this further, take it to the House and table a motion there.

If, anything in the last several years teaches us, on the Global stage and on our doorstep with these Presidents, Politicians and so called Think tanks is to treat them as Rudyard Kipling once wrote..To paraphrase the man...“If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too;!” If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and Treat the two imposters just the same.

This isn't a recent phenomenon where leaders try to whip people up into a frenzy and play on their fears. You only have to look at recent history and world events. Don't blame each other, blame the people who whisper in their ears!! Their "song" is like that of the Sirens in Greek mythology. Listening to them would always lead to death and destruction.

No doubt Brexit has brought out the best and worst out of people but cooler heads will prevail. What a great forum this SportsMaserati is!

Careful what you wish for....
The Tory hardline Brexiters are not beyond such an act of self inflicted party political self destruction. And what does it say about the UK's plight that it is somehow better we have a lame duck PM (37% of her own party voted against her), and terrible tactician, over any on the list of frankly disastrous replacements..?

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

Who here would like to disagree with Sir Winston..?

Winston was a good wartime PM...
Even he had doubts the like of which May appears incapable..?

Agreed - they do. However, he’s the MP for a part of the country (Somerset) that is incredibly loyal to the Tory party, and I suspect whoever the Tory candidate was would have a decent majority.

In fact...he does, despite his being an anachronism of archaic ruin. Obsolete..? Like Corbynism IMO!
Politics eh !

I have just watched online a very interesting bit of film.
Who Paid for Brexit commissioned by the news organization All Jazeera
Take time to watch it.
Joking aside about a film its going to be more of a Bourne Identity.

The joy of a safe-seat.

We now that now but his rhetoric then was forceful, strident, determined and confident. The May autobiography, if candid, will be an interesting read one day.

After the vote the Torys had last night an interesting titbit came up that hasn't been picked up anywhere, which I thought quite relevant.

Teresa May got 200 votes, verses 117 in her confidence vote. However, regardless of whether this is damaging or not, it is still more votes than she got in her leadership contest.
Some might say her popularity within the Tory party has increased.
