Brexit Deal

Well we seem to have done rather better than the EU on the vaccine front.

I have no experience on the import / export side other than to observe it's had precisely zero impact on anything I need at this point. That may change, of course.

Is that because we imported the vaccines from India (where I believe the Pfizer one is made) and made the rest ourselves?

As for not needing anything yet. It will only be a matter of time.

No it's because the EU forbade anyone from negotiating direct with the manufacturers. Oh, and the government were widely criticised for deciding not to join the EU vaccine acquisition programme (or whatever it was called)

It's a trifle perverse to try and judge the impact of a major shift in global realpolitik on less than three weeks. I don't recall but I wonder how well the integration went.

Having said that, Portugese vineyards prices have gone up, so I have seen an impact ;)

Well normally I'd agree bit I'm not sure the NI folks would:

  1. Pay The Republics exorbitant VRT on cars
  2. Pay The Republics exorbitant Motor Tax (RFL)
  3. Pay The Republics exorbitant car insurance costs
  4. Pay the Doctor €65 a pop
  5. Pay for Private Health Insurance on top of shiitty HSE (NHS Equiv) at €170 a mo or so
  6. Pay full price for prescriptions to a limit of €124 a month.
  7. Pay USC (Universal Social Tax, ie Celtic Tiger cockup tax) on top of PRSI (National Insurance)
I'll post one of my payslips (redacted) to show all the PAYE/PRSI/USC deductions!

All sounds really terrible but pales into insignificance compared with not being able to get jelly or gravy

I do think the negotiated deal is a gift for Sinn Fein, if they could get 400 years of sectarianism out of their heads for a moment.

The UK also report the number of people vaccinated as the number who have received a single dose.

With what I have seen over the last few weeks and seen with my own eyes regarding the situation with regards to getting anything in, or out of the country, and the fact that everyone involved has said that the situation will get much worse.

Are there any Brexiters who still think that Brexit is a good idea? If so why?

As thus far 'Project Fear' as the Brexiters called it, has been project 'Spot On' so far.

Of the online communities I frequent, SM is the only one where the majority was in support of Brexit, so I'd like to know this too, but haven't dared to ask given previous threads... :D
I'd also be keen to know as from my perspective, I'm seeing a lot of project 'Spot On' too, and not a lot of benefits (potential/future, or otherwise).

Oh, God, I thought this thread was dead.

Continued posts here just feel like necrophilia.

Well, probably. So I'm told.

I think the silence was everyone just quietly watching to see how things pan out.

Brexit will go on for years, there was only one way for it to not go on for years, and the country voted against that.

Perhaps we really need a Brexit the aftermath thread, but I suspect for the sanity of the forum overall, sticking with just this one is a better plan!
