Buying and importing a car from Japan

I did import my assetto corsa from Japan 4 months ago.

I bought it in an auction (there is a lot of car auction in Japan, and the cars are cheap, very cheap, but you don't really know exactly if the car goes well or not and you don't have any history of the car, on the other side, the description of the visual defects was exhaustive).

I was lucky, the car was way better than expected, it even came with a new belt and waterpump (the old one was in the trunk).

If you buy via an auction site, you'll have
- hammer price + 20-25% auction fee
- fee from your contact in Japan (mine cost 1000 euro but he organise all the transportation to Belgium)
- transport (roll on roll of to Zeebrugge, about 1700 euro)
- 10% Import duty (it was calculated from the hammer price, I was surprised)
- 21% TVA on top (hammer price + 10%)
- some small fee from the company unloading the car and clear it through the customs (300€?)

It did completely make sense for a very cheap assetto corsa, rare and expensive here, for another car, especially for a cheap car, I'm not sure it's a good idea (a lot of expense are not related to the price of the car, transport, customs agency, representative in Japan).

Hope it helps.

Maybe so, but we all want to steer clear of such terms.

Maybe site code warn you before posting so you can edit, or as you type? But then again we all know we can pad out with spaces so I don't know.

I'd prefer to stay in the rules but not get four stars that could mean nothing...

Difficult one...

Can you point in the direction of some user friendly auction sites?

Chapeau on the AC, it looks fantastic and glad to hear the experience turned out well.
