Cam Variators on Automatics

I know this point has been raised on the other forums - but wanted to understand how many owners with automatics - so wet sump cars have had their variators replaced. My can makes the clatter when it starts - but quickly goes away. The issue is not there when parked on a level garage - only my driveway which is slightly sloped. So am looking for people who have a 4.2 QPV or GT automatic to see how many/if any have had the work done.

Thanks.

PS - checked with Maranello - no outstanding recalls on my car - so nothing there.

I have a QP(V) auto
Not sure if work has been done in the past - I will check the service records, but I do not think so.
So far I have had no problems - thankfully.
It is due a service early next year.
If I find out anything I will post it

Thanks Dave - hopefully other auto owners will contribute as suspect this is a none issue as there are many cars with high mileage on them etc. But there's nothing better than real data from real owners.

Ah....now......

I bought my 4.2 last Xmas and noticed this alarming clanging when starting from very cold i.e. it hardly happened at all, but when it did, it was very noticeable. Then it completely disappeared only to happen again a few weeks back. So it must be temperature related I suspect. And my car is garaged at ALL times.

Maranello suggested that it is a variator issue but I haven't had them done although i might do as the warranty is due to expire!

Bobby, you have to get it done really as the warranty is there. Without doubt the colder the weather the bigger the rattle.

I had a 360 Modena for 4 years that i sold around 4 years ago. Like most Ferraris it was never used and did the same rattles on start up as it was always left for ages between use and clearly cold when started.

I think it is just one of those things Ferrari engines do. But if you can get it fixed free then it is a must.

Just keen to see how many others have had their cars fixed.

Best regards.
