Well - I finally pulled the trigger on a Land Rover Series 2a - Petrol engine 2.25 w Fairey overdrive.
I am supposed to get it post lock down as the vendor wasn’t comfortable doing anything before that.
It’s a 1971, and is as a result MOT free (though I will still carry on for safety reason), road tax free, congestion tax free and ULEZ tax free. Oh and the annual cost of insurance Is £119 with an agreed value of £10k.
Although it won’t really appreciate massively, it is likely to be the cheapest car to run that I have ever owned (famous last words?).
So from that stand point, I don’t think it will do too bad over the next 10years

It was the same colour too..
There was a bunch down in Somerset way who did the conversions, it was about 200hp
As you can imagine, I upset lots of E type and Aston drivers at the time!;)

it is bloomin tempting but i fear it will reach far more than i'm prepared to pay especially as i have the giulietta project at the moment, i reckon the 240z will reach in excess of 20k
Looking at the pictures it's a really original car and with the mileage and low number of keepers this Japanese Etype is worth doing I reckon.

completely agree, very rare find and would be worth a substantial amount of money once restored, my problem is 2 fold

  1. My wife will more than likely shoot me at dawn if i spent more of the kids inheritance
  2. An eye watering tax bill to pay by end of month (b4stards)

Trying to way up the pros and cons of pissing off the wife at the moment ;)

Well the sunroof has sealed the deal.. obvs.. Just surprised that it has one and has not flooded itself and rotted away and at least it is not one of the boggly eyed monstrosities....

Seems to have a stray 1 at the start of the price. 1995 seems about right compared to these

48k mile spotless one sold for 2.5k -

80664

Or this 2.9 with 32k at 2300 offers invited.....

In my ebay watch list, out of curiosity, I have a rusty old Datsun at £15.6k , or a 1999 35,000mile 3200 at £8500. You are telling me the rusty old Nissan is twice the car ? lol. Nostalgia has a lot to answer for.

Yea, it looks like that way if your selling!
Regarding that early 35k 3200 for 8 grand, it will be a total bag of sh*te believe me

Don't forget nice Mk1 twin cam Ford Escort Mexico's are going for well over 60k nowadays! 8k might just about get you diff rebuild!

8k for a diff rebuild on a ford escort? How complicated is a diff on a mk1 escort!
Is it 8k now because it’s a ‘60k car’?

Well of course.. and It most likely wont be the normal Ford Mk1 escort diff
It'll be an Atlas ZF diff with plates and stuff that need preload settings depending whether your doing dry tarmac or loose forest sections!

For example a proper Ford Cosworth 1800cc BDA race engine rebuild could cost well over 20K!
