Ways round everything though, for example, set up a motor trade shell company, get trade insurance (£1500-2000k pa) buy the cars and put the V5 in the company so it doesn’t add another registered keeper, trade plates, £150 pa and drive them all round without having to individually tax, insure or MOT them.

;)
Best thing I ever had was my Trade Plates.
A sad day when I had to post them back when going to NZ.

How many cars need to be bought / sold to qualify for trade plates?
Just watched Harry garage , summary of 2020 and he only spent £7700 insuring 30+. vehicles

I had the straight 6 supercharged version in my mid twenties, possibly the worst car I've ever owned. I drove it no more than 1,500 miles and put it up for sale. It took more than 6 months to sell and I lost about £20k on it.
I think they worked hard to improve them. Friend of mine had a very early one brand new. I was following him in my Renault GTA Turbo in Norfolk. He had my brother on board and I had my future sister-in-law. They went off on a bend I’d have sailed through. That’s when I discovered it was an XJ-S in a very pretty frock. They were shaken but not hurt thankfully. The DB7 went back to the factory, then mysteriously they were all recalled for suspension mods. Didn’t put him off though as he moved onto a V12 version when they came out. I think they had his name and delivery date (birthday) on the kick plate. Almost as naff as that Power, Beauty and Soul message thing that came later.

There’s so much to love about Astons but they do score loads of own goals.

I saw that Harry's Garage review and thought for the number of vehicles he has the insurance is good value.
When I got my Trade Plates back in the mid 90's I got them from the local DVLA office in Bristol.
Short interview to prove I was in the trade and job done.
Wouldn't know what it's like today though.

me too - about £200-ish per vehicle which fits with my experience of 'classic insurance'. No mention of road fund licence in that video?
Which does steer my thoughts toward older cars which are zero rated for 'road tax'. The most expensive fixed cost in running modern fleet.

"collector car" policies can be fairly cheap especially if you have at least one car that's worth over 250k and then you can add all your other cheaper motors to that policy for almost peanuts

I pay £80 for both GTI's. Agreed valuation on one of £15k and other £5k. Tax is about £179 per year BUT in two years the tin top will be tax free. Cars like this needn't be expensive to run.

that rolling 40 year thing is great, i'm about to apply for historic status on my January 2nd 1981 Fiat 131 Supermirafiori, free tax and no more blooming MOT requirements, cant wait till my other motors reach 40

In Italian it was Beige Cava!

Price wise, two 4200's wouldn't get near, it went for 32k+ last time it was sold

I suspect we may not need to worry about car tax soon as can see it being scrapped for a different format of road pricing.

I've just renewed my insurance this year again with Footman James. A blended car collection/motor trade policy. I think it was about £1400 for myself and my wife on all cars. Currently 10 I think but is done on total value really not number of cars. The trade plates are about £165 per year I think.

Regarding the AM DB7 my friend as one that is the best I have seen but selling at the moment, it is at Autofficina you certainly wouldn't be wasting your time taking a look if you are after one. He owes me a pint now.
I drove it a earlier this year and yes nice car but it didn't put a smile on my face like the Gransport does :). He has now bought a F430, I am certainly looking forward to taking that out.

On the DB7 I’ve liked the look of the late model Vantage and GT compare dto the DB9 because its much sleeker in its profile.

these must have been mentioned before, the BMW E39 M5 and petrol M Sports are surely going to creep up, the 525i to 540i M Sports are still fairly reasonable at the moment, anywhere between 2 and 6K, finally bought a nice 2001 525i M Sport for a couple of grand the other day and forgotten what a wonderful driving machine they are, need to do a few jobs on it but it's in great shape
