Central locking 4200 GS

Hi guys,

I have an issue with the central locking and have refreshed the battery and completed a reset as a first step and no result. I'm looking for any tips on where to look next or possible culprits.

Both doors lock manually with the key so no mechanical issue. If I press the CL button on the key the passenger side door only locks then quickly unlocks along with the alarm mobilizing. The driver door does nothing when the CL button is pressed.

Any ideas what could be the cause as a first step to check?

Thanks in advance!

It's the locks and a common fault... using the key helps the power unit, but its old and knackered.

Not too much for the part and DIYable if you have small hands.

Thanks, so replace the lock units for both sides and this should fix the problem?

Does it need to be recoded after the fitment or anything like that?

Drivers lock is broken. Replace it. Simple swap, and quite cheap. No programming.

I assume if you use the key in the driver's lock the passenger lock goes as well?

Simple swap...if you have the hands of a child. It’s a job that I find quite frustrating, it’s getting all the rods on that is tricky, double check you get them all on, 4 from memory.

Yes. Needle nose pliers are a useful thing to have. When I did mine, one of the clips was actually a different size so was never going to go straight on.

It may be then that it's very broken.

That's the right part, but given your up date on the symptoms I'm inclined to thing it's electric and a bad connection. Possibly in the flexitube between the door and the body (where the cables can crack) or in the multiplug.

It would seem that for whatever reason the ECU is not getting the microswitch triggering to lock the passenger door when you use the key in the driver's door and when you use the remote locking the driver's lock is not getting energised (so the switch doesn't trigger so the passenger log bounces again)

So it might still be the module, but this is not a normal module failure (where the solenoid fails alone, but the microswitch continues to work)

The plot thickens then, I just did the window regulator and didn't notice any problems with cables or wires as I thought I would have a check of everything due to the doorcard being off.

I'll pull it back off and investigate the electrics to see if there is any obvious problems and order the module.

Thanks

No reason you would it it's the plug of the cables in the flexi hose. You can put 12v to the solenoid connections and see if it fires the lock.

check all the rods are on, it may be the last person did not put it back on as its too fiddly. My Strad passenger door had some paint and the manual open does not work on it, I suspect lazy fitters...another job on the list that I don't seem to get round to.

Will do, it may have slipped or fallen out of place and be a simple fix!

Been there done that I had a faulty drivers door lock a quick check go to passenger door insert key into lock turn key to open door window drops open door then close door and lock door if locks are working then
open passenger door sit inside press internal lock see if the doors lock if locks are working passenger door lock is ok move to the drivers door repeat the same process if my memory serves me right this will pinpoint the lock that is causing the problem could be cable needs adjusting rods come loose or new lock required locks are about £55 new

Just tried as you suggested with some strange results.

Both doors locked I put the key in the passenger door to unlock it, window drops but door unlocks and immediately locks itself again.

Driver side door locks and unlocks both sides when using the key but doesn't from the remote button.

From inside the car the passenger door does the same action as with the key when you try to lock from the inside.

The driver side inside locks both doors but the sneck on the passenger side doesn't fully travel as it does with the key and you have to move it by hand to get it to fully lock??
