Thanks guys. With that in mind, would it be standard practice for the garages like Joe Macari to replace the CPS whilst replacing the clutch itself? It sounds like that would make sense.

A failing CPS wouldn't cause a misread on the actual clutch wear itself though, I'd imagine?

The car will still be doing some city driving, albeit a lot less. Which is probably for the best... After investing in the new clutch, I'll certainly be holding onto the car for a while. I had actually started to consider changing it, but not now.

You would save c£700 not replacing the clutch plate, but given that the vast proportion of the cost for this job are labour, it would be unwise not to do it whilst the clutch housing is out.

Yes, as Safrane says, it would be false economy to not change all of it while it is apart. One thing you can do is shop around, depending on what they quote you, you might get a better deal with another specialist, like Sports Italia.

I've spoken to Matthew at Sports Italia today and will follow up with him tomorrow. I think the car may end up going in with them, as he really seems to know his stuff and they seem highly regarded on here. He was alarmed at just how low the mileage is on the car for it to be reading as having a 100% worn clutch.

Good to talk to you yesterday.

Yes 20 odd thousand miles and 100% clutch wear is not right so I would strongly recommend doing the CPS at the same time.

It’s pretty nailed on this:
20k miles circa 40% wear
40k miles circa 80% wear engagement and transmission go to dealer errors and starts to play up
50k miles starts to slip and needs changing
