I think the clue might be in the message, I'm afraid :(

C
had them look at it today and confirmed Alternator is good and none of the other electrics are giving the battery drain

so it seems like check transmission go to forum

Sorry, you took it to a dealer and they checked the alternator?

Next thing down the chain is the actuator pots. The seals leak internally and contaminate them. After a bit of driving they clean up and work again. If it’s been sat for a while it’s usually worse.

Sorry to reignite an old thread, but thought I'd do that rather than add a new one. I've had the exact same error as the OP, car won't go out of second gear after getting the same error message. Not had a chance to have diagnostics done, but someone at a London garage told me it was almost certainly my clutch? Is this also possible?

Well, it could be....

What’s your mileage? Does it shift gears when stationary? Does it start?

Mileage is 26k (which is clutch territory I believe?) It doesn't shift gears when stationary, it does occasionally let out a completely unprompted high-rev when I'm slowing down. Starts fine. Battery died about 4 months back, been using the C-Tek to keep things ok since then. I have also had a completely one off ABS go to dealer warning, unsure if this could also be battery.

Clutches are normally 35k miles plus, but it can depend. When you say it doesn’t shift, it won’t go for 1st and second? I would wait for the verdict of some of the more experienced members but it seems like it could be the pots to me, and it’s missing gears.

Sorry, maybe I'm misunderstanding the shift question. From stationary I can select either 1st or Reverse without issue, I can then shift upwards from 1st to 2nd without issue when on the move. The only changing issue emerges with going beyond second. The erratic self-revving is odd, I did wonder if this was the clutch slipping but it's happening when it's under almost no strain.

Thanks for your help, it would be good to get some further thoughts from other members. I'll speak to Dale at Prestige about it, but wanted to at least be more informed on what I'm likely dealing with.

I wasn’t clear with my question. But to me it sounds like missed shifts not clutch. But until it’s plugged in, it’s only a guess.

Thanks for your help, either way. I've actually just connected the C-Tek to the car again and the battery level does seem low again (despite only being charged in the last 2 weeks).

I know there are mixed views on what I'm going to say. I keep both the Gransport and the Turbo on CTek chargers all the time if the cars are unlikely to be used for 2 weeks. The Porsche had a new Bosch S5 back in 2016 and the Gransport had a new Exide Premium in 2018. I always recommend keeping them on trickle charger such as CTek or Aldi or LiDL version of the same. Voltage issues trigger a myriad of signs in both these cars.

Keeping the battery topped up is a good idea, but it’s probably not your issue. One way to find out though, hopefully it sorts it.

I probably need a new battery at the very least, based on what I've read earlier in the thread. But still thought better to connect it than not. Conaero, it would be great to get your thoughts. The assistance is much appreciated.

Just replaced my battery on the GS. the old one was on a Ctech which would get it to 13.2v but it would drop off to less than 2 bars in 24 hours wen disconnected and in the shed, so clearly at the end of its life... which was 3 years and 1200 miles... so much for German quality.

I think my battery is a Yuasa. Conaero, do you suggest changing the battery as first port of call?

Zep, I agree that things aren't made the way they used to be! haha

Battery is the cheapest and easiest option to start with first.
Diagnostics check next to see what's stored in there.
Always interesting to see how many are voltage related.
