Must be impartial on this one. Ahem. I remember helping my Son, who is now eighteen, with his homework about 4 years ago. His history project just happened to be the second world war. Having watched Das Boot etc. more times than I care to remember, I wont deny relishing the chance to get involved. I was therefore surprised to read one piece of A4 paper on the second world war. September 1939 at the top, and February1945 at the bottom! What was interesting, was that Rommel survived the war, and went on to a career in post war Germany. Naturally I went to discuss this with my Sons History teacher. I will spare the hour long lecture I gave her, however, her summary was this: "does it really matter about Rommel". I replied no, in the grand scheme of life, probably not, however, my Son will now not believe another word you tell him, does that not bother you? Then the bell went, and she had to leave.

That happen??

And some Dem , but its not really necessary if you make time to be hands on about it all , keep involved and on top of what direction things are going , dont be scared to challenge their methods concerning your lilun , private school comes into its own when they are older , especially for later on in life regarding contacts etc etc

A lot of the public schools have gone down the same route as state: starts with no pupil can be a looser and ends up applying to the staff too.

PS pensions used to be generous to make up for much lower salaries. Unfortunately people forgot this when the average PS salary started to outstrip the rest.

However, much as I think public sector reform of T&c's, pay and pensions is long overdue the government shouldn't be able to backdate changes. It's as bad as backdating tax rules......

The first 21st century global financial crisis was caused by excessive consumer debt, lack of bank regulation and bankers that thought they could outthink the market. The second is being caused by government debt run up to pay for an ever increasing public "service" (delivering a lot of "services" most do not want or need) and regulations imposed on Financial Services that forced the banks to subsidise that spending. Give it a few years and i wouldn't be surprised if we wake up back in the seventies :)

Personally, despite being ex-public sector with a wife that still teaches (in a state school) we both thought JC comments were very funny.

Personally I think it pretty likely we end up back there. Its either inflation or Japan type deflation - neither pleasant but the inflation path can be brought back under control, admittedly with a lot of pain.

Wonder if my old tank tops still fit; they'll be back in fashion soon lol

Do i have to take a mortgage out and send my little one to private school??

If your local school does not suit, then consider it carefully for secondary education. We had that very choice and were reluctant to use a fee paying school. I still think that our daughter was bright and hardwarking enough to do well at the local state school, but might struggle to excel. The fee paying school was a revelation, where thay all appeared to *really want* to be there. in teh 7 years at school at least 6 under-performing teachers were "moved on". One maths tutor sat playing on his laptop for the whole lesson, young guy aged 24.
Sorry to say for any teachers reading, but I heartily approve. If any professional is not working well, maybe a change of scene would help them/give a kick in the pants. How many state schools have the luxury of choosing their staff? How many are "stuck" with teachers lacking motivation/skills/ability.

Easy to say in my industry working with people who want to be there (teachers deal with pupils who mostly DON'T), but if you are not cutting it, you're for the chop. The boss of GEC used to have a cull eavry, bottom performing 10% got the bullet, neutron Jack was his nickname (got rid of people, left the buildings intact!)

**** right Rob but there's only two sackable offences for state school teachers; failing to complete the register or touching the kids. Simple incompetence is a necessity in most schools. From my experience I'd say at least 50% are poor at best but keep their jobs. They know they'll never get another job so they stay in the same job for 35 years.

That is really quite scary, having made the big decision to send my daughter to a local fee paying school last year I can say that I know it was the right choice, walking through the school In the morning is quite a remarkable experience for me compared to my state school experiences.
