might be worth pre-treating the shock adjustment ring with penetrant several times before the visit. Any other fasteners that might be involved shock the shock need removal too. My personal favourite is plus gas but guess anything might help.
Welcome to the world of maserati.

50/50 mix of Acetone and ATF. It’s mustard (not literally so don’t eat it :D)
by AFT you mean automatic Transmission Fluid ? Burn the heretic!
What would and sane maserati owner posses such demonic substance? Have you got a secret ZF equipped daily driver? :D

So, got the shocks done. Rears lowered by 30mm and now at least looks standard. The fronts on the other hand.... the left one is screwed up 30mm higher than the right one for some bizarre reason. It has to come out to get it freed up Which will be done on sat. That’s not the really strange thing, although its 30mm higher on the left side, the car is actually lower at the front on the left side by 5mm. Wtf? Whilst in there I noticed that both steering arm boots are perished so I ordered two from euroscares £70 plus 21 for postage to n.i. Talk about being penalised because I live in the colonies. Is there anything else that I should look out for at the front end whilst I’m in there? Thanks in advance, neil

Pi55er - you can get cheap boots( for a Porsche IIRC) that cost @£12...!
Check you ball joint boots for perishing, holes/damage. If these let the sh1te in, the BJs go bad and its an expensive lark replacing wishbones cos thats what it amounts to..!
Its worth having a close look at the arms inboard too- any signs of cracking around the main flanbloc bushes would be a problem....
Im sure theres other stuff in the wheel wells. Front subframes are worth checking over for rot. Brake pipes also known for corroding but these are more underside of the car than wheel wells...

Id definitely be thinking of wheel alignment in the very least after this, if you arent already..
If it was me, Id be wanting to get a full geo done.

Sounds like there’s an issue that a previous owner has tried to compensate for by raising the spring seat. When you’ve got them off measure the springs and take it from there.

you might want to consdier chjecking corner weights. If you set the springs and shocks all the same and the actual height of the car is still off, it may indicate some mismatch some where else, like some body damage maybe? However if its all over the place corner weights is the only way to get the car to sit right and also ride and handle properly. take a deep breath and go carefully!! I would measure the body height on all 4 corners before you make changes so you can see whats changing.

My old 4200 was like this, when I came to lower it I found one of the front shocks was adjusted about 30 mm different to other one, but if you adjusted them to be the same length, then it looked horrendous,

Which Porsche part is it? I’d like to know ideally I want to replace all boots if anyone knows any cross references to those boots as they can get pricey once you stack them up!

I’m getting it looked at on Saturday. My mechanic can’t detect any chassis damage, but I note that I have a grandsport front bumper, so now I’m thinking why? I know that the car got its front end painted in the last two years but I was assured that it was tatty And not damaged. There are no signs of it pulling off centre and brakes in a straight line with no wobbling on the steering wheel. It’s really strange that the two fronts are so far off, and why was it so high at the back? Jasst how did you solve it or did you leave it as is? Thanks everybody for your help, I really appreciate it

The late model 4200 had the larger grill/bumper from the GranSport. Completely normal if its an 05 and after.

As Davy said corner weights.

Having been doing cornerweights on racecars for years you’d be surprised how far out you can get things and it still look ostensibly normal.

Check the springs are the same length when it’s apart. Adjust the spring seats to the same position and take it from there.

Corner weights and ride heights work on diagonals. So changing the front left also affects the rear right and vice versa.

If yours is the ex-Dwight York car that was on PistonHeads, it looks like you probably have a facelift 4200 bumper as you also have a facelift 4200 grille - the splitter is slightly shallower than the GS one. In the pics it looks low on the left front, so it might well just have been worked on by someone cack handed.

Yep it’s that car, had a lot of cosmetic work done before I got it. Front springs (hopefully) coming out on sat One of the shocks has to come out front left which is the one that’s sitting higher as the adjuster has seized. I’ll measure them to see if they are the same height. Why would anyone put in two different sizes of spring on the same axle? Anyway I’ll keep y’all informed.

I doubt they’d put two different lengths in but it’s possible that one broke and they didn’t change as a pair. So you’ve got a new one and a saggy one. Or they’ve just got the seats all to cock
