Talked it through with SWMBO and she doesn't want to do the 24hr boat out so I'll fly her somewhere probably (accept she is lousy on boats anyway). but her overriding point was "lets have another week on the end at the lakes and then drive back". Got to love her; what is not to like about an extra week of loafing!!!

Those who don’t want a transporter back is not a problem as long as the transporters are filled, dead spaces cost extra per head and we don’t want to do that.

Matt,

Out of interest and maybe for some whom the dates don't work out... Is the transporter going out empty (some may want to take advantage and that may bring costs down)

It will be full outbound I suspect but not with our cars.

They make their money by keeping them full and on the road.

So if needs be it would only be fair to make a donation to the transporter costs, even if not using it........

I liked the mad nature of the tapas bar crawls. Like some only sold one thing. Found one that only sold mushrooms (one type of) and one that only sold chips! Figured the tiny beers were so you could have lots of different tapas, a beer in each bar, and not get totally wasted. Coupled with that innate foreign fear of pints. I did wonder what my mates would have made of it, had I been with them and not the mrs lol

We were there with wives & girlfriends and they couldn't understand it!
We did the British thing and had a pint in each bar, starting the closest to the hotel.
4 hours later we'd moved literally 20 yards! But had taken in about 12 bars and eaten enough Chorizo to sink a battleship!
So many crazy little places!
I'd definitely go back.

The number of transporters available has set the group size so I'm saying early that an extra space would be available if we go onto a holiday as we did on the Viva Espana trip :D

Although hopefully we won't be caught in a near civil war this time!!!

Matt, what is the total cost of a car transporter? And how many cars will you get on it? I’d like to look into this option maybe for my own trips

Colmar... lovely place. A few visits there and Eguisheim, Ribeauville and the vinyards... but the GS conked out there on my last stay... had to leave it there... wish you far better luck.

Agreed, have stopped over in Colmar on a number of occasions!

We'll be taking the scenic route back visiting relatives in Colmar so we definitely won't need the transporter.
Dianne and I did Colmar and Riquwihr the year before last instead of doing the mad rush back to the UK from Mulhouse on the last day. Highly recommend it!

Beautiful place with a brand new Novotel about 200m from centre AND new underground secure parking!

We stayed in Mulhouse, but the parking was a bit difficult to access.

I have always found the leg home from the high of the lakes a bit of an anti climax, which is why we went for the transport model last year. It means we can spend more time on the twisties, less time on the motorway.

Didn't you have wood for parking at Mulhouse? Or was that at Monaco? It's all a bit of a blur.
