Comparing similar 4.2 & 4.7

Hello all, first post on the forum. I'm looking for a silver GT or GTS. 2 nice-looking cars have been up for sale for a while:

https://www.ktexeccarsales.co.uk/used-maserati-granturismo-surrey-surrey-1785006

and

https://www.tittyhomotorcompany.co....-granturismo-4-7-s-2dr-raunds-201809270931827

The 4.2 was first registered 2010 but I'm not aware of that engine being available this late - anything sound odd about that?

Also, is there a rule of thumb on the passenger airbag on top of the dash - i.e. when it went from a panel to a slit? This seems to have been phased in all over the place b/c I've seen 4.7s with the panel airbag. I don't mind apart from the fact that the slit one seems to be the newer set up.

The 4.7 is wearing very strange wheels, they look like QPV wheels I've seen before. Do you think they've been swapped?

For a 4.2 of this age, should I stipulate on the variators and brake pads having been done? Anything else?

Has anyone looked at either in the flesh?

thanks a lot folks!

Can’t really answer your questions, but am astounded by the website address of the garage selling the 4.7! When I first read that I was convinced it must be a wind-up...

What engine? The 4.2? It's still available now, surely.
Variators only need doing if the engine number is below 148697
Pads need doing when they need doing. Not really an age thing.
I think it's expensive but maybe that's just me

Quite like those wheels on the 4.7

A Chris (Catman) said, you can still spec a 4.2 engine now. Not sure why you would want to, but still.

The wheels on the 4.7 look perfectly normal to me, I've seen a number of GTS's with them.

I think the 2010 4.7 should be alright with regards to Variators.

The 4.2 does look on the expensive side, considering it's in 4.7 territory at the moment.

Those 4.7 wheels are normal. I had them on mine (albeit in dark grey)
Thanks, I've only been looking at older cars and didn't notice these before.

Has anyone looked at the 4.7 in Wellingborough before? Would be interested to hear any thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Its an Auto 4.7 and not an MC Shift so yes, those wheels are standard I believe. Its the MC shift that came with the Tridents standard along with oval exhaust pipes.

I think the ones on the 4.7 Auto are called Tridents (like mine), the MC shift ones are called Neptunes right? I'm not sure what the 4.2 style wheels were called.

Me too. Apparently it is a real dealer in a real place (with good reviews, as it happens).

Ok, as others have said the 4.7 auto has the standard wheels that came on the car (mine has them) but the 4.2 has the standard wheels that came with the 4.7 MC shift. However, anything went with orders and you chose what you wanted subject to price.

The 4.2 was discontinued when the GT Sport came out in autumn 2012 but sales trickled away to next to none after the 4.7 auto come out in summer 2009.

There will be a silver car discount but you get that going in so it washes out when you sell. Personally I am surprised at how cheap the 4.7 auto is (might have to keep mine!). For both check built dates and engine numbers as they maybe past variator problem numbers.

What is the Silver Car discount? Are they considered undesirable?

Is there a resource on the site with a standard checklist to bring when viewing a used GTS? Cheers for any assistance!

Silver Granturismos are rarer but not undesirable; albeit maybe not the most sought after either. Don’t buy a Granturismo without a full pre-purchase inspection from a reputable independent.

Silver look so real on a GT....I would take silver over all those black ones for sales. Picks up the lines perfectly.

At the original GT launch in London they used a silver car with bright red interior. It was even more red when my pal spilt his wine while trying to climb into the back.

Silver is very practical as it hides the dirt/dust well. But on the downside, it never really dazzles, even when newly polished. So it never looks bad, but never looks outstanding either. Still nice though, and suits the car.
