Confusion over exhaust components changes - advice required

Hi all,

I've had my 2013 Granturismo S MC-shift (I think that's what it's called) for a week now and want some advice.

Having come from a Ferrari 360 with an upgraded exhaust, I miss the volume, barking and pops!

In sport mode, it is definately louder and does bark and pop but I want more!!!!!!

Having said that, I do really appreciate the relative quietness when not in sport mode and just relaxing with the valves in the exhaust closed.

So, what I would really like is to retain the volume in normal mode but turn the sport mode up to 11.

I've heard talk of X pipes, H pipes, sports cats etc but don't which would be the closest to meeting my needs.

Advice required!!!

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Having recently fit an X pipe to my car, I can definitely recommend it if more is what you want. I haven't heard a H pipe in person so cant really comment on them, but my understanding is that the different pipes give slightly different tones. X pipe being more italian, H pipe more nascar. I'm sure I will be corrected if that's wrong!

My experience so far of the X is that it is exactly what I was after personally. It keeps that nice italian V8 sound with the signature crossplane crank burble very much like the car with the standard pipe, but with the X it is like the standard sport mode turned up a notch, much more pops, bangs crackles etc and it really screams when you press on through the revs. From the very little driving I have done not in sport mode, it seems relatively similar to before. Quite a bit noisier on start up though.

I have a few very poorly recorded videos from the weekend I can put on dropbox or something if you're interested. You cant really see much but you can hear it pretty well.

Sounds like this is what I'm looking for - many thanks. What make did you purchase and was it easy to fit?

You could also send your back boxes away and get them modified so the sport mode is louder. Maybe mixed with an X pipe would be great, but do it in stages.

No problem. I bought mine from a member on here second hand, but I believe it was originally from Autoshield in Manchester so maybe give them a call, I think they are reasonably priced compared to Larini etc.

I didn't fit it myself as I don't have access to a ramp, I had it done whilst mine was in for its MOT & oil change. But essentially its 4 clamps, so I can't imagine it would be that difficult to fit.

X pipe is £280 + vat from Autoshield. Made to order, 1 week.
I too have a GTS MC and am considering the X pipe modification. I also run a 360.

Just ordered it from Marios at Autoshield.
How are you finding the GTS? Obviously very different to the 360 but, unlike many cars I tried, makes me smile a lot and with the additional Ferrari noise..........

Really enjoying the GT-S. I find myself referring to it as an inexpensive Ferrari 4 seater. Loving the way it has a Jekyll & Hyde character.. comfy and relaxed on a recent motorway blast through northern France with plenty of luggage space and those rear seats, press sport and MC-shift and have fun on the twisty countryside bits. It really is a great all rounder and very capable.
I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts once you’ve put the X-pipe on it if you don’t mind.

I quite agree.
Not sure there is plenty of luggage space though (unless compared with the 360).
I found I was using the 360 less and less as my back deteriorated but didn't want to lose the 'specialness'. This way I have a GT when I want and a sports car when I want.
I also own a Bentley Flying Spur speed which couldn't be more different! A 200mph limo which is always silent.
Once the pipe arrives and is fitted, I will give my feedback.

I might have gotten carried away with ‘plenty’ but I was comparing it with the 360 which always needs semi careful packing for a 2 week trip away..
I also run an Alpina B5 Touring which in comparison to both the above is positively cavernous and tops them both in BHP and top speed. Doesn’t have ‘the fizz’ though.

i have Larini Sport Cats and Larini X-Pipe with Stock Mufflers (GTS Version, so with valve bypass)

when in Non Sport Mode is near to completely Silent if you just cruise, you can hear the engine above 3k, but sound is very muffled, i will say that remains like stock "non sport mode"

hit the button, Sport mode, and wow, is Aggressive, Downshifts are pure SEX !!! and its Loud, very Loud... LOVE IT! just amazin' !!!

The Sport Cats makes the car more responsive too, you can really feel the engine reponse faster... for me, the real best buy

So, pipe (from Autoshield) arrived and fitted.
As others said - just what I was looking for. Doesn't sound any different in normal mode but put it into sport and the volume goes from 10 to 11. Very impressed.
If anyone is going to Rippon this Sunday I'll be there to show it off!

I just ordered the same X pipe from Mario on the strength of your comments.
I swore I didn’t need to improve the sound when I got the car 2 months ago... and here we are... back on the slippery slope!
Apple car play being fitted next week as well :)

I saw the naviplus car play on Sunday at Ripon and now that's on my to do list! You won't regret the X pipe. Subtle car when appropriate, hooligan otherwise!
