Emovis tag is genius. Had one for 10 years or so and always brings me joy to cruise through tolls at 30km/h
You need to trust that it will go up! It was a bit hit and miss for me until a mate said you need to be doing at least 25kmh for it to work properly so have courage. It's a bit heart in mouth though!

Heading to Spa at the end of the month for the F1, think I'll try and stay on the French roads for as long as feasible before heading north.
Likewise! We used to go every year for about 15 years and going back this year after a few years off. Main plan was to avoid Brussels at all costs, worse than the M25. NB. It's not just the roads in Belgium, driving standards are far worse than F or NL based on the amount of emergency braking we have endured as they wander into the overtaking lane oblivious!

So I hear! Well perhaps see you en route, we're taking the tunnel early Thursday and then back on the horrifically busy Monday.

Make sure your tires are good. I had 2 blowouts in 3 days driving from Manchester to London and back. Mine were Pirelli’s that I bought in 2019 and only did 5,000 km in the 3 years I had them but with my car having been imported from Kuwait I’m sure the extreme heat of Kuwait damaged their integrity somehow. Paid £600 for 2 Chinese tires out of desperation

We’ll be in the queue with you on Monday also. Should be interesting!
I left it stupidly late to book it so opted for flexi plus, hopefully not too long a wait there! Anyone else heading to Spa for the F1?

So not heading to spa but as we’ve had frustrations coming back into the UK when it’s busy before we have also opted for flexiplus for the return leg (went out trouble free on a standard ticket). Hoping that minimises the chances of too much hassle and waiting around!

I had to do the Flexi thing too, daylight robbery. I'll be heading in the opposite direction, but hope you have an awesome time at Spa.

No different to any modern car TBF.

  • AA or equivalent
  • Tyre repair or spare (you may struggle to find matching tyres at short notice, so be prepared for a wait or get something similar if you get a flat)
  • Don't get carried away with MPH as some countries will impound the car
  • Try via michelin to plan your route, they are more up-to-date with seasonal road closure.
  • Remember it's a big car and most old hotels carparks and entrance can be tight and be aware most charge c€25.00 per night for the car to be parked or double that in place like Monaco... it soon adds up
  • Don't drive for too long per day or your passengers may not enjoy the trip and you may not be able to repeat it.
  • Get a fob for the toll roads via https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/subscr...MI6YOMpajJ-QIVdGHmCh0vHAMFEAAYASAAEgI3IPD_BwE
  • watch out for Ethanol content at the pumps
  • If going via the chunnel, book your car as if it has a roof box so you can use the coach carriage... saves you knackering the alloys.
  • France still closes for a very long lunch so plan your fueling if in the sticks...no fun waiting for 3 hours when you are on fumes (I know).
  • Some mountain routes are closed very early in the autumn for snow and ice.
  • Enjoy
BTW, my old Emovis tag had run out of battery or expired (it tells you when you log into your account) and I had to get a new one. To be fair it arrived within 24 hrs of ordering, but just worth checking yours is still in working order before you head to Europe.

Always use tags but got one in France. The U.K. option charges slightly more unsurprisingly.

Another agreement on petrol stations in France in the sticks. We did some back roads on the way to Le Mans Classic and made sure to fill up in the morning, have to say that most of them were still selling E5 95RON which was a surprise.

One owner was very pleased when two of us turned up and put over 250 Euros worth of fuel in both cars - think he was more used to 20 Euros a time!

Where can you buy the Swiss motorway vignette without being fleeced with a massive booking fee?
Eb

The border points on most motorways have a lane to buy one. Don't get one beforehand they're always more than 40chf.

A few French cities require a Crit Air sticker now. Most French seem to ignore it. German cities often require an Umwelt sticker you can get them online from TUV, traffic wardens will fine you for not having one
