So if I decided that I really am never going to be back at running, and want to try cycling.....

<lights blue touchpaper>

What should I buy given I'm over 6' and not interested in spending over 4 figures.

<stands well back>

You can get an ebike for just under a grand. You’ll use it more, you’ll go further, and if you want to, it’ll still help your fitness improve. I’ve had mine 7 years and it’s brilliant.

What type of cycling do you think you might enjoy? Road, gravel, or mountain biking?

As a first buy, I’d definitely recommend looking at the Boardman range from Halfords... they are not as cheap as some, but they are well specced for the money, and there’s a range of different price points including several below £1,000...

The other option would be to buy secondhand...

Hmm. Not sure that really is going to be me. I want to get the calories burned and done with, not actually go anywhere, but I'll have a look, cheers

Road. One of them actually seemed like a reasonable first stab but once again their website being total **** showing stuff that is neither available for delivery or collection sigh

This would also be a good place to look... a Canyon Aluminium bike would be a great first bike and not break the bank...

Here you go, their reviews are usually on the money. If you going for a road bike I’d steer clear of discs.

I’ve had my road bike for 17 years, it’s had a new group set but looked after they last forever and you don’t need the latest carbon thingy. Mine’s been across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Med, up 2000m plus cols and done over 60mph down the other side, you don’t need the bling. Although if it’s Italian that is a little cooler

I’ve also got a tri-bike which was the cheapest Ridley did at the time with a used 10 year old group set and the cheapest aero wheels and that’s taken me to the finish line of many triathlons including ironmen.
