Yup always looking! Just got 8 month old boy and finding am not using my 1967 spider any more due to just two seats !!! So have been reading all the blog/ forums for about a year seeing if would be a silly move to buy a 3200 I think the answer is yes but when does being sensible come into buying Italian cars. I know the first thing with these cars is to check the service history and that all important red key which this has neither but I have always liked the idea of buying old cars at the bottom price and spending the money saved on restoring them. Maybe a bit silly with these cars as bills can mount up so quickly. Any thought appreciated matt

Hi Matt, welcome onto our forum! A few questions and thing to clarify where you're coming from and hope to get to!!!!!....:)

It needs a new wing, headlight, passenger side door, and bumper....plus some paint damage at rear arch?...correct or?

Have you done a salvage car before?

Have you a good repair shop lined up to do the work for you, sourced parts etc yet?

Even as a salvage car would advise getting an indie inspection done....cos if it needs say just brakes and a new clutch and other parts, can mount up to more then half the price it is now, if things neglected etc.

Will put up a link to all things Maserati for you.

Let us know how things progress and hopefully a few more guys will drop by with info and suggestions,

Cheers,

P

Hi Matt its certainly haveing one with history as they can be very expensive to keep up together.
Super cars super bills is what they say.
I bought mine on a whim and i have probably the highest mileage 4200cc on the forum.
I have done nearly 4,000 miles since August and she is now on 94,000.
Had the odd glitche but nothing the guys on the forum could'nt help me sort even when i had a panic on the 27th of December.
To finish best car i have ever owned and love it to bits.
Best of luck looking and just ask the questions.
Phil.

Hello Matt,
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry, don't know the car.
As has already been mentioned, definately worth a look and an inspection before parting with any money.
Shame there is no history etc...but normally this can be tracked down with a few phone calls,
good place to start is the number plate...there is some writing on there, but the picture resolution is not
high enough to zoom in and get a clear idea of what it says...
might be worth a phone call to the seller to see if it says anything interesting, you might get lucky :D
Good luck in your search,
Regards,
Enzo.

Is this the car we have discussed already...If so I believe w e said with the bits Frank has mentioned and paint you are looking at 3 to 3k then on top of the price of the car you are very close to the price of a good one with history.......The car needs to be bought for sround 5 to 5.5k to make if worth while......I may be wrong but if its the same car I believe a memeber tried to buy it but the would budge on price ... or very little.......

AndyK...can you link the other thread to this thread for Matt?

He can get a better handle on the forums thoughts and advice.

With reference to Andy's comments re value etc...thought I would post this:

ABI category definitions:

defs.JPG

cat definitions.JPG

VIC info:
VIC.JPG

Would agree with Andy that the asking price is a little on the high side!

Very useful post Enz......when a CAT D vehicle is properly fixed can't you get it taken off the register or some such....makes it more valuable?

No P...believe that it will always have a marker against it on HPI etc...

Thought I would post the VIC info as it is quite common to think that a VIC test looks at the quality of the repair...
it does NOT, all it does is check the identity!

Thanks for the help with this have read the other thread is def the same car, as I was thinking that 5.5 k was going to be my top price for this car and has already declined this offer !!! As other members say prob better to get a straight car with history. Will keep searching mileage dose not bother me as will only do a maximum of 3000 miles a year just along as has good service history !!
