Perfect weather for it In Norfolk today so no excuses. Taking the 40 for a run shortly whilst the roads are quiet, then even the concours winning garage-Queen Vanquish is coming out of its Carcoon for a blast!

Just wish I still had the GC on such a sunny day. It’s still for sale BTW at a dealer in Chatham who Dicky must have sold it onto, for £35k, which is the same price I paid for it from a specialist dealer over 2 years ago with 7k miles less. I think about £32k is right and that’s what Dicky suggested he would retail it for before he decided to sell it on. It’s a very good example but overpriced IMO, so that’s why it’s still for sale after 3 months.8468384684 so 84686

If you ever need a co driver when this side of the Channel I'm available @Doctor Houx :)
NP Phil, it would be a pleasure! Travel
Restrictions permitting, I plan to take the 40 down to the HdeF for the Marcon classic middle of August and stay for the 24H the following week regardless of whether there are fans allowed in or not. I want to capture some photos of it parked down the alley at the side, just like it’s famous forebears from JW Automotive that went on to win in 68 and 69. That winner was chassis 1075 and mine is based on 1067 so very similar. If you can come over from Leval that week, it would be an absolute pleasure to drive you on the exact road they took from the hotel to the circuit and back.

Question for anyone who has the Drive it Day plate, at what speed will it come flying off if I only rely on the suction cups?

Drive it day, moy arrrse! Would love to partake noisily but the Vantage is having some cosmetic work. Bit of paintwork and then a detail and fresh PPF.

You’re doing it right, Frank. Helen as well, for that matter.

If they’re Italian, it’s going to fall off just sitting there. If they’re Chinese, just after the warranty period. If they’re British you’ve probably not actually got any.

I don’t think the towing eye being in for the photos does it any favours!

was great to see so many nice cars being out and about yesterday AM. Was out the door at 5.45, and luckily have Silverstone round the corner from me, so went to Stowe gardens and grabbed these.

How do you find the Vanquish, as always liked these, sounds like it does not get driven much.

Yeah, but in my defence you will note it was at a track day at Snetterton where they suggest you attach it if you have one, just in case you get over enthusiastic and put it in the kitty litter ;-)

Lack of use has nothing to do with its lack of ability as it’s a superb GT. Long story but to cut it short as possible, this is the unique ex AML press car for the SDP variant (1st of 94) that was then retained by them as a development hack with several unique features. As such it’s unique and very valuable and I’ve spent the past 10 years getting into AMOC concours winning condition culminating in 2nd place 2019 and 1st place in the Global concours 2020. Featured in loads of mags and photo I attached was from “Vantage” mag feature 2017.

As such it doesn’t see much use these days, but certainly not due to its ability. Sound is awesome and on a par (but different) to V8 maser and the GT40 IMO. 8472384724

Thanks; it is now. It was not in the best order when I got it and I have had some help from Chiltern Aston and Stratton’s who are both AML heritage dealers with some paintwork, parts and mechanical repairs, but the concours win is 90% elbow grease. The trick was also to avoid losing the unique patina of its life as a development car and all the evidence I had to get from AML to prove what was done to it as a result at Newport Pagnell during their 9 month ownership when new in 2004.

I remember laying on wet grass under the car at about 7.45 AM on a Sunday morning in Sept 19 cleaning the undertrays and wheel arches ahead of 10AM judging time thinking I was totally mad..... and I only got 2nd.

The AMOC standard is very high and the judges come round in white coats and gloves and no matter how hard you have cleaned, they always seem to find a place to get a grimy finger on a glove in some dark recess of the engine bay! 84728
