Earth Straps

Evening,

Not on the maserati but how important are all the connections ?

The car in questions has a V12 with two cats - one per bank. An earth strap goes from the frame to the Cat and then to the engine, and on the other side from the frame to the cat and then is connected to the diff. The cat to the diff bit has broken and fallen off. The Cat is still connected to the frame.

Does this missing bit matter ?
The car started and didn't burst into flames ??

thanks

Diff is probably rubber mounted, so will need an earth if there’s any electrics in there. It’s also a spinny thing so might produce static.

The diff is bolted to the back of the engine, but there is a rubber mount on the other end.

the engine is earthed and the diff is bolted to that ??
I will buy another strap just in case.

thanks

Unless it’s a Lambo with a rear diff and front box, the starter will probably be bolted to the diff/box casing so it’d be nice to have its own earth.

The Bizzarini lump is well one huge lump so I wouldn’t be too worried. If you’ve got a modern one with the “Audi” engine I’ve got no idea but either way someone thought it needed it, so I’d put one back.

Have you seen Ian Tyrell removing the engine/gearbox out of Harry's Countach? It's monstrous!

Yes we all know about It Italian cars and electrics. The more earth strips the better! Rust and bad wiring galore…
