Engine Bay Cleaned

Inspired by Matt's previous post about cleaning his engine bay I decided to give it a go on my 3200GT. As you can see from my 'Before' photos my engine was reasonably dirty with a good layer of grease especially on the rocker covers and inlet manifold. To clean these areas I used Autoglym Engine and Machine Cleaner which I applied using various small brushes. I then carefully rinsed the parts with water. I protected any electrical connectors in the area I was working by covering them with plastic. I then cleaned the various hoses and plastic components in the engine bay using Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care.

Overall I am pleased with the results for the amount of time it took although over the winter when I'm not using the car so much I intend to do a more thorough job. Then I'll spend more time removing parts such as the fuel rail to clean them on the bench without the fear of causing myself electrical issues from introducing moisture into the engine bay.

Below are some 'before', 'during' and 'after' photos that I took during the process.

Thanks for the comments. It didn't actually take too long to do it, probably about 4 hours in total which isn't too bad when I think about how dirty it was when I started.

Did the same today with the 4200...but it looks almost the same as when I started!...need to gloss the hoses next week to make it gleam

You should be very pleased with the results as it looks great. Time well spent I think. When ever I buy a car the condition of the engine bay always makes a difference..Shows if the owner has cherished the car...

Looks fantastic - is it just the Autoglym vinyl and rubber care that's given the high gloss finish on those hoses?

Yes, I gave the hoses a quick wipe over with the degreaser to get rid of any surface muck and then sprayed with the Vinyl and Rubber Care. When it first goes on it looks white but then as it dries it leaves a gloss finish. According to the instructions you can also spray it on and then wipe over with a cloth which will give a more satin finish but I didn't try this as I was after the full gloss effect. There's no such thing as too much bling!
