Thought I'd start a thread about good or bad engineering you have encountered;
Back in Jan. the river flooded (again), and I failed to get my Honda pressure washer to high ground. After 10 days fully immersed in water, and another 2 months before I could get to it, today I began to clean it out to see if could be saved.
Once again, I am amazed at the Japanese ability to build products that are so simple, and yet so durable. It's a 5hp ohc aircooled gas motor. It has a plastic
(nylon?) cam with one lobe and finger followers to actuate both valves. A tiny Gilmer belt to drive it ( it's like a Ferrari!), this thing is a marvel of simplicity.
Fogged the cylinder, drained & flushed the sump & fuel system, WD40'd the ign. , refilled, and voila, she fired right up. :)
Maybe Maserati needs to hire some Japanese engineers.
