Engine swap

Would it be possible/straight forward to install a 4.7 dry sump engine from a GTS to an early QPV DS ?
If you read the rest of the thread you will see that it is a pretty complicated issue, only to be undertaken with a good amount of courage and a propensity to solve very complicated problems. A lot of time and some spare cash also seems to be required. From what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t even bother unless you have masochistic tendencies.

Hey All, so I bought a sports air filter from Ed (A.S. Motorsports), installed last week.
It definitely made the sound deeper with more bass (veeery close to 4.7 Sport GT S ).
I also had valve control kit from formula dynamics installed. The burps have now become somewhat quieter than before, I can't explain that phenomenon, however it doesn't bother me - I wasn't a huge fan of it anyway. So all-in-all it just leaves a psychological feeling of marginal difference that I run 4.2 engine, rather than 4.7, and perhaps a slight despondency, that my attainment of this goal hasn't been achieved/worked out.

Hey All, long time no speak.

So, I have decided to tune engine Ecu, apparently can add as much as 40 HP and even more torque to the engine. Was told to do all necessary testing before, like compression test, leaks etc...

Any companies in the UK that would be capable of doing it?

Thank you :)

Has been done for the forum before on the GT - No difference found when two cars were run side by side, one with one without.

I think its DMS?

Do you mean, no difference in sound/speed/torque? So the other car was still sounding different and running faster? Or identical sound? BTW, am not after speed, just trying to replicate the sound of 4.7 Sport GT S.

Sorry, what is DMS?

That was a long while ago, but yes Dan! Had the DMS and ran it alongside Matt's standard car. The difference was negligible

Did they replace the exhaust/back boxes to oval ones, installed an air filter too? Was it 4.2 Granturismo to 4.7 Granturismo?

It was just a remap on a number of cars. The 2 GTs were both 4.7 GTS with some previous exhaust mods
Thank you, that answers my question. I was advised that the difference on 4.7 to 4.7 would be negligible, someone was trying to tune Quattroporte 4.7 S to match Quattroporte 4.7 Sport GT S. From 4.2, however to 4.7 that is a completely different scenario...
In addition, one needs to install the oval backboxes and perhaps air filter on 4.2 to replicate 4.7 GT S sound.

Without wishing to be “that guy” in all my years, I have never heard a 4.2 that sounds like a 4.7. I think on a fundamental level, the volume flow of gas is lower and so generates a different note, even when the pipes are the same. This won’t change, as it is a function of the bore and stroke, plus the cam timing.

That isn’t to say that a 4.2 doesn’t or can’t sound good. But it will be different.
