Engine swap

Pretty sure they are all the same engines and boxes. Where's Matt when you need him?
Just the gearbox and engine ecu that provide the differences ie. Gts get launch and faster shifts when the S did not. Is an extra 10bhp worth the added cost of buying a 'gts' engine over an s , I doubt that very much.
Changing from skyhook to fixed would be a better solution for carrying speed round the twisties.
Thank you, who is Matt? :)
Changing from basic 4.2 to 4.7 Sport GT S is 50BHP extra, changing from 4.2 to Granturizmo 4.7 Auto S engine, which is 460BHP even more so :)

Matt is Conaero/Sportsitalia. He may also know of some engines languishing on a pallet somewhere. From memory the QP S was just shy of 440bhp. SPORT GT S was 450 and yes the late GT 4.7 is 460.
Weight of S v SPORT GT S was identical at 1880kg if you believe Mas specs.

Thank you, yes, you are correct about the BHP, i own basic 4.2 2009 though :), so for me it would be an addition of 50/60BHP respectively.

You could get 30 of that through a remap and a decat would probably give the rest. Just saying.

True, but the 4.7 has noticeably more torque. I totally get the reasons for swapping. If it turns out to be doable with the potential pitfalls, it could be quite good.

So the issues are, you can’t replace an Auto engine with an MC shift engine as the cranks are different as is the engine timing and vice versa

So MC shift for MC shift or Auto for Auto will work.

You will need the loom and the ecu from the donor engine.

Would it not be simpler and more cost effective to sell the 4.2 and buy a 4.7? That would be my advice as the unknown tents to strip the wallet.
Hi,
From what I know all 4.7 engines are the same ( Stradale have some fancy coating on some internals) and the only difference is where and what gearbox is attached ( auto has special adapter and gearbox at the front, automated manual "MC" has bell-housing, torque tube and at the end gearbox ) the only difference might be the loom as they have to communicate with TCU as well as with ECU.
Good luck with your project

Cheers, it will be auto for auto....

OK, All, whilst I was happy typing my replies, the engine had gone. That very company, however received a QP 4.7S engine with the original loom and ECU. I am sure that will defo work on my QP.
The only sad thought is that Granturizmo 2014 4.7 Auto Sport was 460BHP, which in turn would likely to improve the sound on my QP with oval exhaust and be a tad faster as torque is 383 as opposed to 361.

Not sure how different it would be if i were to install QP 4.7S engine...

Some food for thought I guess.

It’s the same 4.7 engine, the extra 10BHP in the Sport GTS is due to the different exhaust. So you should compare to a 4.7S, which is cheaper than a Sport GTS certainly if the suspension of the Sport GTS is deemed too hard…I don’t get why you would be looking at a Sport GTS? But maybe I’m missing something.

I have already installed original oval stock Sport GT S backboxes on my 4.2 2009, so the sound has become quite different but still not the same :)

If there is no other difference to the engine of 4.7 Sport GT S vs 4.7 S, then obviously it should replicate the very sound once the engine of 4.7 S is installed.

I just thought that perhaps the engineers of Maserati did some tweaking to ECU of/or engine of 4.7 Sport GT S, so it had more air intake or power and thus sounded differently to 4.7 S and alike...

There will be more air coming out the back of the larger engine would there not?

Yes, i think so, am no expert though :(

My point is if the both engines 4.7S and 4.7 Sport GT S are the same, then it is no brainer for me, and i will buy 4.7S one...

I think there was an ecu tweak to speed up the zf but not entirely sure. There was talk about it a while back.
