Then it's probably a MY2011 engine, the 2012 was only sold in 2013 I believe. I have a 2012 but I'm pretty sure it has the MY2011 engine.

Probably. Thank you for sending the technical info. I have read through it, did not find any difference apart from 10 BHP extra, which as you mentioned, come from oval exhaust. I have that exhaust installed already anyway.

Have not found any difference between 2011 and 2012 4.7 engines either....

What details should i ask the seller for to be sure, like vehicle number plate etc? That way i could check myself the year of production and other details?

Make sure you get the right engine number with the variator fix already done. You should be safe at 2010 but worth checking in case the supplier is selling you an older motor. <148697 if memory serves. :excellent:

The variator issue was sorted long before, ideally you would find out what the engine variant is but I have yet to find out where I can find that. I was also looking to see if I had the MY2012 engine as that again had 10BHP more. My engine number is (M139S)183091 so you can check to see if yours is close.

You have got 4.7 Sport GT S that comes with oval exhaust, so you would defo have 10BHP more than 4.7S with quad tail pipes anyway?

Unless you've seen the engine running I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole , especially if it's out of a write off , they'll tell you anything , it's only done xxxx miles except the last 60 seconds it was screaming it's tits off upside down in a ditch

When I swapped engines in my bmw e36, the old ecu rejected the new engine unless the key, barrel, immobiliser and ecu were all paired. Physically installing the engine was easy, making it work and wiring the same engine but different year was an entirely different story...
Sounds like you've done your research though, hopefully Maserati have made it easy to plug and play. Good luck!

Interesting I have changed a few BMW 24 valve six pots including a 3.2 M3 and they just plugged in and played no issues at all.

Lots of people remove the EWS chip so it can be pnp, I also went from an m50b25 to m52b28 which was the main sticking point obd1 to obd2. Learnt the hard though... new block was nikasil and eventually ate itself. Fortunately the old block was ready to go back in with a few upgrades

Thank you, Chris, they are in the region of 10K Euro. I have located some in the US, similar engines, mileage under 50.000, the price including donor car ECU was around 4K Euro. Not sure why they more than double price in Europe...

No clue, i have no idea what a good price would be for a used maserati engine. I guess noone really does. 4k seems quite cheap though. And these are asking price, so who knows if you throw in a cheeky offer. Bonus is you can just rent a van and pick it up. Inspect in person before buying etc. And no taxes/import duties when you bring it home ;)

You’re probably liable for VAT or whatever they call it there, possibly some duties and of course transport cost. But should still be cheaper. Bit difficult to return it if it’s a dud though. looking forward to your updates, looks like we’re spoiled for interesting projects at the moment
