Now we are allowed to drive again I’ve been out filling up a few of the fleet at less than £1 per litre. A V12 Aston, 4.7 GC and even the 7 litre Bentley are economy models at this price. Happy days! When was 95 RON last less than £1 a litre? Last century? 70015

One of my jobs in the early 90's when I worked at a motor dealers who had three petrol stations was to go round all the other stations and list their prices and ISTR it was around the 35p a litre mark then.

There was a car dealers in Stockport that had a petrol station Mazda i think. There petrol station was around 25% per litre above the average price for petrol. Seemed to be done purely on the basis that when customers collected their new cars they filled up and charged the customers the premium rate.

Nobody else ever used it so im amazed it lasted as long as it did.

One of ours was the last one on the road out of town, the price per litre was always higher at that station...

Heating oil is similarly cheap at the moment. We bought 2,500 litres last week at 19p per litre. Not far off being 2/3rds cheaper than when we last topped up the tank.

I was a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain! Aged 17 or so. I got UK Positive Vetted though when I was in the nuclear industry so they never found out. I was young and idealistic!

I was truly smitten by the Soviet Union in my youth, they had inside toilets when we didn't, and heating and hot water. Only later I found out all that came at a price. When I finally visited I knew about the samizdat undercurrents and disharmoony that ran beneath. Still, a laudable plan, ruined by greed like everywhere else in the world, and the SU was never communist, it was socialist, merely on the road to true communism. My mrs is an actual Soviet (with three Degrees!)

Been to Russia after several times and it's worse than it was under Soviet times for me, infra has hardly changed, Putin is a dictator, you have to pay for petrol before you can pump it, you cant take bags into shops or supermarkets, have to put them in a locker and there's security guys to make you do it.

Still love the place though!
