It appears that attention is being brought to our cars and looking at good cars prices are rising slowly. A good 3200 is now commanding circa £15-17k, when I bought mine 12 months ago it was around £11-12k which is what I paid. I assume the same for the 4200. All in all it's looking good as an investment as well as a joy to own.

The centenary year will hold up prices and may even drive them up a little for good cars...but it is still a hard sell with most of the modern cars up for sale for months/years...The main rises will be in the pre bi-turbo models as they are still way behind comparable cars from other historic brands.

I hope I am wrong but once GT prices drop into the 20s and the 4.7 into the 30s it will be even harder to shift the coupes unless they are low miles (under 50k) and with impeccable history as they are a swift little sports car...BUT...expensive to maintain against their purchase price...and that's the issue...cars with poor history swamping the market and compounding the reliability issues wrongly associated to the brand rather then the owner.

Many talk about the cars going well into the 100k + but few want to invest in them including, dare I say it, most of us on here...ok I am sure I will be shot down in flames...but I think the history of purchasers on here bear this out...and sadly cars that are in some case 15 years old are now approaching mild restoration as rust waits for no man!

Personally I think the coupe is better looking than the GT. It has a powerful shape ouzing muscularity. I reckon in 5 years time 20k wont buy a straight original with sub 50k and history.

Dunno BJL..........but certainly as regards rarity they will be an even less common sight.........Gts will only be a rare car in the 2070s......;)

4200's...not 3200's....hhhhmmmmmmm......;)

Probably as they think the 4200 is now rock bottom and can not go any lower.....ou can pick and early one u for 11/12k.......Pluc generally the 3200 is still seen as an unreliable car compared to the 4200 and that is just all about the engine...3200 old school engine - 4200 new age Ferrari engine.......Whether this is true in it or not thats just perception.

I think the issue is one of perception Andy. OK it's a pita if you have throttle problems on a 3200 or CC problems on a 4200, and Heaven forbid that the the dreaded endfloat gets you on the former. However, if you look at any marque on the Honest John reviews you will see a catalogue of problems on current models let alone older ones, and that includes 'quality' manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo.

Undoubtedly some of the HJ reports are overplayed, but even allowing for that just consider the number of recalls by Toyota, VW, et al for serious issues in recent years. A neighbour who coveted my 3200 required a replacement gearbox on his 6 month old Mazda, and even then he said it didn't feel right, and that was on a new car that cost him nearly £20k!

The cost of parts on Maseratis frightens folk for good reason, but in the reliability stakes are they really so bad? I think not, and the increasing numbers of high mileage cars tends to support that view.
