The only time I would knock the 452's is on a saturated track, I was all over the place. But saying that, would the OEM tyres be any better?....doubt it.

For every day application, you cant beat them, and I run 452's on all my cars now.

I'd seen all of the various recommendations about 452s, both on here and different car forums. I was interested because of the multitude of different types of cars they had recommendations for - supercars, FWD, RWD, 4WD, front engined, rear engined etc. With such a rounded reputation and at such a reasonable price they had to be worth further consideration. I had the opportunity recently to try them and so fitted a set of 4 to my Alfa GT. This was done alongside a full Hunter geometry check/correction as Alfas are notorious for coming out of the factory with settings all over the place. I've done about 3k miles on them in snow, rain and in the dry (no hot sunny days yet) and have to say how impressed I am with them. The Alfa is a nose-heavy FWD car and the grip is frankly amazing. Based on my experience so far I will be fitting them again in future.

I shall look forward to that Matt, although I expect the Alfa to remain at home on those days as that's when the hood comes down on the E30. That has super-sticky Yokohama Parada tyres all round which are almost impossible to unstick, even given the tail-happy nature of the car. Having said that the car is about to undergo an engine transplant that will increase power by more than a third, so it will be interesting to see if I can get it properly sideways under power. If so then I shall be looking for a LSD for it!

What were the OE tyres and how do the Falkens compare? I've got Yokohama Advans on mine and they are cr.p. Dry roads; traction is poor, unless going straight the back steps out when giving it the beans, even when pulling out for an overtake. Damp roads; chronic wheelspin through to 4th and the back end is all over the place. Wet roads; bad aquaplaning and don't even think about accelerating. Still lots of tread but thankfully, due to wheelspin, there won't be for long! Recommendations anyone?

So, overall, what seems to be the most popular tyre of choice? Also, bearing in mind that, to me, grip and tyre life are more important than noise and cost, does anyone have a recommendation based on this?
