Fill plug location 2004 Cambiocorsa F1 transmission

Hi guys,
I have a 2004 4.2 GT-Coupe Cambiocorsa
I'm new on the forum and green with the Italian cars.
At 65 not new to mechanical repair and maintenance however
I am a past Volvo tech. I am performing as much of the 30k maintenance items
DIY as possible.
I cannot locate the fluid check/fill plug on my F1 transmission.
The enter gearbix is covered with a thick rubber
cover. I read somewhere right side. Does rubber need to be removed to locate plug?

Thanks
PaPa Garry

Hi Garry and welcome. I take it you mean the F1 CambioCorsa hydraulic fluid and not the gearbox oil itself.

Its a pig to get to and to be honest, you might find it worth while just taking the spare wheel boot floor well out.

Its only plastic and held in by 20 screws or so, then it will reveal the fluid reservoir.

There is a bolt in the bottom of the wheel well from memory that attaches to some tin foil type heat shield material you need to access from underneath, so have a look before you pull it out and also when you refit, use some mastic so seal it, as they are prone to fill with water.

Good luck!

OK bottom of trunk comes out for hydraulic fluid reservoir access. 1liter
The oil drain on the trans/axle is clearly visible...hex plug.
Where is the fill plug location? Calls for 2.8L 75w/90
My transmission is wrapped in a tough rubber covering.

There is a good DIY presentation somewhere on Maserati Life that describes the gearbox fluid change. i found it by a search. It was an easy task. I recently did all the fluids on my 2004 Spyder. i used a syringe to withdraw and then refill the clutch hydraulic fluid from the reservoir. i did take the spare tire carrier out of the trunk, or boot as you Britts like to refer to it. i then used a vacuum brake bleeder and drew the fluid through the two bleeder screws - one near the gearbox and the other near the clutch. It seems to shift fine so i must have done it right. fil

2004 Coupe Cambiocorsa My entire transmission is enclosed in a rubber boot....sort of like a rubber
flack jacket. Probably for noise reduction? I cannot see a fill plug.

The filler plug is a 22mm on the left hand side of the gearbox drivers side obscured by the exhaust pipe.

Final answer..... RIGHT side of transmission.
A hydraulic line runs right over top of it and the rubber cover has an opening for the plug however difficult it still may be to R&R.

Could anybody post a photo of fill plug location on 2004 or similar cambiocorsa?
I found a couple of illustrated Gearbox oil change instructions but neither show the fill plug or a photo of how you
fill it, seemed to be too trivial to them to explain but for a first timer, even finding the fill plug is problem.

It is half way up the side of the gearbox on the right hand face when looking from the rear of the car.

If you look for the oil cooler pipes and trace a line towards the back of the car. Your gearbox might have a black foam rubber wrapping around the casing, if so it sticks out of that.

As for filling, you can either use a small electric pump or I used a hand pump to get it in. You should also fill it slowly to make sure the oil flows into the diff casing.

Thank you for the photo, as a first timer I was about to unplug the 19mm bolt above the filter marked ??? in below
photo, but decided to ask first and wait for clarification. Your photo helped a lot.
As seen , fill plug is not just near and next to filter as others printed but few inches to the rear of it.

No problem. The banjo connections are for the oil cooler lines I mentioned. Leave those well alone!

I did a tutorial here :
It's in french, but there should enough pictures, and you can use google translate for the rest (right click, translate in english). ;)

In fact, the whole topic is a big tutorial about the 4200/GS/Spyder maintenance : oil change, coolant change, air filter, charcoal filter, F1 fluid change, lambda probe, brake fluid, spark plugs, pollen filter, etc...

Thank you, I found it, it's too tight, sprayed it with WD40, will try losen it tomorrow before draining.

What about this tutorial?
That is one of the 2 I mentioned earlier that skips filling up details and leave the reader wondering where is the fill bolt
