I nearly always loose the items I want to buy if I bid in the last few seconds...

...you have to go in hard in last 20 secs..........so if this when new, was 400+ euros.......and he has a high starting price, plus its as new...then 200 euros sounds a good value, plus this item has been up 3 times in the last two months!

Do you put in most you are willing to oay for the product Enzo......That way you get it goes up in stages and if it goes over your budget then you wouldn't want it anyway.

Yeah, I guess the trick is to pick a price and then stick to it...which I find hard to do.

I tend to think of a price and then move it up in stages myself over the life of the auction Andy,
depends if I think I will be able to watch it or not...if not, I normally do as you say, put in my max and see what happens.
There seem to ba a lot of people that do bid at the last minute though...saw it on the 575 headlight I sold recently,
it jumped 300 in the last 15 seconds,
Regards,
Enzo.

I use sniper software to bid on items. It means you don't have to be sitting in front of a computer in the dying seconds of an auction and will also never go above your budget. Plenty of sites out there that you can register for free. Basic premise is that you enter the item you want to bid on and your maximum price. The site will do the rest for you and bid in the last few seconds of the auction. I've won a ton of stuff this way - very satisfying!

You have to be very sure of the market and prices for using the software noted by MAF....have often gone just a little bit more than my budget and won...alternatively......have gone a lot more and not won it....it really depends on whose desperate enough and who knows its true worth.

The sniper software works best when you find certain items coming up regulalry and you really know what the item is worth, but for rare, one off items........quite difficult.

Case in point....the key pad rubbers......one went for £21...then £18...then £15.....last one went for nearer its true value, plus this forum has now mopped up post of the pent up demand for these items!

But research the item well first.......and then see where the market takes you!

Totally agree with you Frank. If there was anything special I wanted at almost any price then I'd sit patiently by the computer and put my bid in. Sniping works well for me when I don't have the time to bid, or the item finishes at a time I know I won't be around. It also helps me to not get too carried away with paying more than I want to for items I really don't 'need'!

....have to admit to getting carried away sometimes MAF.......nice at the time when it works out...but not when you pay over the odds......!!.......for some items its very hard to gauge their true worth.......could on any given day be plus or minus 200%.......or....plus or minus 5%!

I suspect theres a little bit of the collector amongst most of the guys on here.....:)

As long as it says Made in Italy on it...I don't feel so bad!
