The bright blue Ghibli Cup (as tested by Top Gear and featured in Classic and Sportscar magazine) is up for sale on Pistonheads. I just chatted to Dan from Trident Cars about it - he has known and serviced it the car since 1997. Asking price is £26,995 and worth every penny.

So, Andyk, time to put your money where your mouth is (as I seem to recall you saying you fancied this colour, and only one such Cup was produced)!!!!!

What an absolute delight! I do like that colour, I almost bought a Renault Alpine in that colour and have regretted not doing so ever since!

Chatting to the mechanic, he mentioned one of his other clients has a LHD Ghibli that has now done 250,000km with no engine issues, and it hasn't even had the back chains changed in all that time. The key is regular oil changes and regular cambelt changes - as long as you do that the engines are great and can easily do big mileages.

By the way, the dark blue Ghibli Cup with the red leather interior (as advertised on Enrico's Maserati Pages a couple of weeks back) has now sold.

really? crikey- we need to start a magazine and get out and interview these people!

I wonder what it's like in the flesh though- seems a lighter shade than FIAT Sprint Blue?

I have seen the bright blue car on several occasions and it is mint. Well worth the money.

Sadly, my Cup is still not on the road. The never ending wheel refurbishment is still going on. The best summer of its lifetime to use it has been spent on jacks with the wheels being moved around minus its body. Come the winter salt it will all be ready!

Happy summer to all the Cupers.

Can't believe your wheel refurb still isn't finished - I hope the bill isn't growing with every day that passes!

I hate to rub it in, but mine's been running like a dream this summer. It's definitely a car that likes warm weather - the gear change, the grip, everything. It's just so much better to drive on a hot (well, warm) day.

Ewan.
I gather that is now done and someone just has to trek over to the other side of Leeds to collect them. The bill was agreed at the start circa £700 which is what I expected but had I not had the GS to get to know I would have been pretty brassed off. Until they are fitted I will not really be able to judge them but then again I've forgotten what they looked like anyway. Having some paintwork tlc, which it really doesn't really need, straightaway afterwards so it'll be in perfect nick.

The CUP is a summer car and as soon as I get it back it will be Autumn and it'll be in works underground car park until 2014.

I must say the Prescott hill event seems an absolute age ago. Been a great summer for putting some miles on the cars.

you know what I think makes all the difference to Cups- a new battery and set of spark plugs!

It's almost a tuning mod!

I too, suffered a 7 week lay-up whilst my wheels were away: and then when I got them back I discovered that the starter motor had failed!

Big write-ups with pictures coming on both these adventures as soon as I get a free night.

I was out the other night for a 30 miler in great conditions and it ran like a new car- even after a couple of weeks unused.

Can't wait to see how the wheels turn out Mr Pearce!

Jim,

My local indie dealer has been running to and from the wheel specialists and I get the impression they are almost as peeved as me. I've not enquired for a coupled of week and think that they should be done by now.

I'm having some tlc done on the paint work and will post some pictures when its all completed - probably can get a bit of snow in there too.

On another note last week I saw 5 Audis in a week involved in crashes. A lamp post on the A38 near Derby, A cyclist and two separate ones on the M1 from tailgating and a rear end too. I had one flashing like mad at the car in front a couple of weeks ago and putting my sensible hat to one side returned the gesture to him. Something about Audis these days.

Anyway Jim- hope you are Ok and delighted you at least are getting some cup miles in.

Best autumn wishes to you and all the cuppers.

The sun was out today, so used my Cup to go to Bath. It's running like U-Bo. Glorious. Makes me glad to have completed jobs like wheels, paint and starter motor in the winter/spring.

Let's hope that summer 2014 allows you chaps to join in the fun!
