Front seat lever issue

Help needed on the Gransport,

On occasions the seat lever does not operate when I tilt the driver seat back section forward.

I removed the seat from the car but I could not find where the tilt lever connects to under the seat, I was hoping to find a micro switch. I really wanted to avoid having to take the seat apart.
Does anybody know where the seat lever connect too or what causes the lever not to always operate?

If the lever disengages normally it’s probably the micro switch. I just took my 3200 seat apart and there the switch is located at the pivoting point hinge. I don’t know if you have a cap that you can remove there?
There is a thread on maseratilife.com where they talk about resetting. This is only when the manual operation also doesn’t work and the fuse is still ok. The seat thinks someone tries to get in and doesn’t allow to squash him.
So if manual operation works, it’s probably the micro switch.

Martijm,
The seat operates fine via the controls. Can you expand on your reference to the pivoting point hinge.

Hi Gary,

I just checked on a parts site where the micro switch is located on yours.
Mine has it on the back rest pivoting hinge where 5 and 6 are mounted, but opposite side.
Yours is located "somewhere" there where 27 is pointing which I suspect is the same location (opposite as this is the picture of your passenger seat)
This is the micro switch, the part number is 980145845 which was used in many Masers so google it to find more pictures.

POST EDITED FOR NON MEM SEATS! The switch (4 on the schematics) has 2 signals, driving position on pin 1 and easy-enter position on 12 (connector 22).
Check signal on the connector between 1 and ground (20 or 21) plus 12 and ground (20 or 21), this way you can check if the switch works properly in each backrest position.

Martijm,

Much appreciated with your research on this.
I feel I will need to take the seat apart but I need to put this on the back burning until I have a bit more time.
Wife has been away so been busy rendering / drilling holes in the ceiling for new lights with dust & mess everywhere - Difficult choice keep the wife happy with the ceiling lights or fix the car seat lever.

You're welcome.
If you have a bad signal, you probably have to take it apart.
If not, swap the module from your other seat and see if it works.

The Gransport seat release is entirely mechanical. Just took mine apart to repaint the horrendously sticky seat back. The levers on each side of the seat connect to two cables, on the same sides, that release the seat pivot.

Interesting aside, my seat backs are covered with the Britex cloth matching the seat inserts.
Do the full leather seats have the black surface featured above on the rear panel?
If so, I never noticed that.

Are the seats easy to take apart? Thinking of wrapping/painting the backs of mine in my Gransport

Yes the release is completely mechanical, your answer might indicate I misunderstood Gary’s issue thinking the automated movement engaged by the microswitch was malfunctioning...
Well, at least there is a reference for this issue available now too :D;)

My 06 Gransport seatbacks were covered with softouch material, so you know what that means....

I guess that depends on your level of aptitude, I thought they were rather difficult. Took me a good 4 hours to completely disassemble the seat back including removing the leather map pocket.

Did you learn as you went along, or follow a guide?

Martijn,
Just to clarify my issue, the seat lever goes down OK but as I tilt the "seat back" forward the seat does not move automatically forward. If I move the "seat back" back and forth a few times then it works.
I just popped into the garage 2 minutes ago and this time it worked first time !! So I guess the tilting forward of the "seat back" operates a micro switch.
So hopefully Pauhanajum may provide instructions for dismantling the seat.

No, You probably just need to do a 'seat reset' described in the manual or searchable on here. Has to be done if battery reset or runs down. If the issue persists then it is likely the seat motor, reasonably easily replaced. You should not have to dismantle the seat for a switch that I don't think is there.

Then I did understand you correctly.

Indeed you can try a reset first as described by hashluck. (Though the auto movement should not work at all, not like you described now that it miraculously worked from the first time)

If that does not do the trick, try to measure resistance on the connector pins I told you about in previous post, that is the microswitch (No27) that signals to the controller (No24) underneath the seat.
Switches are prone to first work sometimes before they do not work at all anymore. (Therefore the switch is my main suspect, other electrical things usually break and just stop working).
Doing this measurement, you do not need to take apart your seat for something that might not be broken!
If you move the back rest back and forth (fully!) and see the measurement change accordingly, the switch operates fine and it would be very frustrating if you took the seat apart...
If it doesn't, this is the guilty one and you will need to take the seat apart (often cleaning the switch with lots of contact spray helps, make sure it's fully dry before putting it back!).

Next step, if the switch signals just fine, you should swap the controller (No24) underneath the seat with the passenger side and see if that does the trick.
You could do this as the first step also if you don't have a multi meter and just see if the issue persists, then you know it's not the controller and probably the switch.

If your button operated back and forward moving works perfectly it is NOT the motor...
If your button operated stutters also, it can be mechanical related as the gears are cable operated inside a flex tube.
Sometimes the connector of the flex breaks making the square end of the cable pop out of the motor or gear (I had this with one and 3D printed a new connector).

If you want I can send you a link to the 3200 GT Workshop manual which is identical for many things, seats are explained there.
Just let me know...
