Now, with a little reflection, I'm fairly sure that Dicky Grace pointed this out to me as a possible area for problems when I bought the car, but in the heat of the moment it totally escaped me.

Leaving a car park in the centre of Marlow today my Gran Cabrio totally cut out. Engine stopped, no life on the dashboard, nothing at all. I couldn't get the key out of the ignition and the hazard lights wouldn't work. I was blocking the exit to the car park. Got out of the car and managed to phone the RAC in between waving people round the car. It was lunchtime, so very busy. Not fun at all. Managed to get the boot open using the pull string and checked under the boot floor, expecting to find water. Nope - all dry. Eventually I noticed that one of the battery terminals looked a bit loose. Opened the quick release, pushed it further down the terminal, fastened it back up again and hey presto the car sprung into life. At least I figured it out for myself, rather than having an RAC guy turn up and fix my car in 20 seconds.

This also seems to be at the bottom of my recent battery problems in a thread recently called Battery!
My QPV is now going again ok but briefly, I went to it after a couple of days non use and it was totally flat.
I regularly keep it on a trickle charge at least every couple of days.
Anyway after charging it up fully over 2 days it fired up and retains its charge which it did not do at first. l found as part of the maintenance work that the -ive terminal clamp could be moved easily by hand so I made sure they were both tight when I replaced the battery in the recess. Took it for a shakedown thisafty and all is well. I will keep a closer eye on the charge in future!

So hand operated quick release battery clamps rather than traditional nut and bolt clamps.
Do the GT's have a separate battery isolator knob like the 32/42/GS?
Just interested.

Hand release on the negative only from memory. They can be adjusted. The GT does not have an isolator, though

Same thing happened to me 1hour in from buying the car! Driving on the M1 in stop/start traffic, electrics just shut off. Got into the boot, released/re-attached the negative terminal and fired up. Phew...
So glad I read up on the forum where the boot release cable was located! Otherwise i would have been screwed!
