just cheap supermarket oil for break in. you don't want ultra slickness, you want a rough old oil to help rings bed. great progress!

I've decided to put together everything so that I can already roll out after the warm-up and put some load on the engine. Took a bit more time, as I had other things to do recently, but finally finished yesterday. There are only some minor things remaining (wipers / front spoiler, hood insulation, paint relay and headlamp plastic covers) but I'm planning the first run today. Will see...

First 50 km done, it was nervous indeed. What's this noise, what's that noise, will it blow up, etc. o_O But we are back home together. Cylinders are bone dry. So far so good.

The clutch release bearing still has some noise, but it's usable. Brakes need more bleeding and there are minor oil leaks, couldn't identify the source yet. I'll get to a workshop with a proper lift to sort these things out, much faster then fighting on my back with the car on jack stands.

Will have to do a big detailing before taking any pictures. It was mostly under cover (for a while), but now it's covered in dust. Planning to sort out the minor things this weekend along with a deep cleaning. Release bearing fix planned for the week after.

Time to update and slowly close this thread. The suspected release bearing issue wasn't resolved yet. The workshop wasn't able to address it, and I only had a little time to spend on the car lately. I spent the time overhauling my garage before the cold weather hits.

MOT went as a breeze, also suspension is set up to a mix of K.S. and Cup specs. Took some effort because of the shims to be used to set up rear camber.

I have driven now around 300 kms, so far not above the 3500-4000 rpm range, put pulling ok so far. Handling is crisp, car is well planted on the road.

The issues found meanwhile:
  • Noise from somewhere around the clutch
  • A/C compressor clutch is not engaging. System was converted to R134a, and I also replaced the pulley bearing, hopefully it's only a loose connection around the magnet.
  • Oil leak between LH cylinder head and it's front cover, the dreaded shoelace gasket. This has to wait, as I don't wan't to tear apart the whole timing again. Will monitor severity but might wait until the next timing belt change.
  • Readjust idle. Now that everything was cleaned, it's around 1000 rpm

We had our local club meet this weekend, finally I was able to attend. Been nearly 3 years since started this thread.

Absolutely brilliant, what great news.

Following the ups and downs of this thread has been very informative and more enthralling than a soap opera.

Really pleased for you that you are back up and running.
