Grancabrio orange indicators/reflectors

Hello all, first post....

I have a Grancabrio 2010 with the dated orange headlight indicators. My car is white and they stick out like a sore thumb! I would so much prefer the clear indicators on the facelift models or even better the darker tint headlights as I think these look great against the white paintwork.

What are my options? Can they be changed, would I need full headlight units or just the indicator part? Does anyone offer a service to change, DIY job??

Open to any suggestions, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

There was a guy selling a GT on Autotrader who did this and IIRC his was a DIY job. He did not go into too much detail as to how he did it but it seemed to be quite an undertaking. Made a huge difference to the look of his black GT though.

I seem to remember Mr F Crud did this with a vinyl strip on his.

Like tinting your windows? How legal is it?

It shouldn’t be an issue, the strip is just a reflector, the indicator itself is the light pod inside the headlamp.

Ah ok, I see now. Next question...... how do I access the reflective strip, would I need to disassemble the pod? The car above is black and suits the black paintwork, not sure how this would look on white? Perhaps I could cover with another colour?

Personally, I would put a strip of tinting film over the outside. Or mask up and spray tint it.

I'm tempted to cover the whole headlight including reflector. I'm just not sure how legal this is? I'm guessing if it would pass MOT standards then it would be fully road legal?

Please post some pictures, so we can see how this turns out. I'm keen to do it, if it works out well for you!

I am going for a light smoke, not sure how well this will cover the orange? Looks like you have used dark smoke or black, surely this must heavily reduce the amount of light let through? Has it been through MOT?

Hi. This is light smoke, I think the camera and light made it appear like that. I did the same on my Evora, both of which had no problem with MoT

Oh ok, looks very dark! Fingers crossed the tint arrives today/tomorrow, I'll post some pics ASAP. Depending on how it looks I may also look at doing the rears.

a side note -- if you take apart the headlight housing, it's trivial to swap the reflector. that said, it's pretty **** hard to open them up, and then you have to seal them back up really really well because moisture in there is certain death to the ballast.
