After a couple of hairy moments recently, I just wondered what brake upgrades that actually make a difference are available for the Gransport?

Mmmm....me too !
Speak to Zep. There is something in the pipeline that will fit all 4200/GS series cars....

A good few years ago Loz fitted big AP Racing brakes to his GS.
There's a thread on here somewhere but several years ago.

The brakes are bigger on my little 1 Series M140i than my 4200!
So obvious with the same size 18" wheel diameter to compare.

How times change.
Personally I always felt the brakes worked well on both the 4200's that I had but I used them all year around and in a spirited manor keeping them optimum performance.
Drilling out the crud regularly too.

I think alot of it is pedal feel unless on track. On my old 3200ac and the qp the brakes don't inspire confidence as have to press quite hard before anything happens, there just under servoed against most modern stuff.
On my old lotus I put ap racing brakes , but as brake servo the same the pedal feel wasn't really any better, no doubt on a track they wouldn't fade in the same way, but for day to day driving wouldn't say I noticed the difference

You get used to what you have got.
The brakes on my Pinin are very mushy compared to anything else I've owned.
I've had the calipers serviced and new discs and pads.
Fresh fluid.
Still the same.
Can't imagine changing the brake master cylinder would make any difference, with just over 40k miles.
A new brake master cylinder would also be 50% the value of the car!!
I just believe it is what it is, when you jump on them you can bring on the anti lock brake system so you know you can stop when you need too!!

If there's a big brake option coming, I'm in. Doubly interested if the stock 18" wheels can be retained. Just had a hair raising day on the track with significant brake fade just before a hairpin downhill turn. Mentally noted at that moment that this winter's project is to improve the brakes.

Iv added a fresh post, but we could do with an 18" front wheel if anyone around Northants/ Sports Italia/Enstone has one laying around. Condition or tyre is not important. I guess we would need both variants maybe......
