Gransport Clutch renewed after 21.500 kms

I am considering to buy a beautiful Gransport with only 30.000 kms on the clock :). I see in the Car history that the clutch has been replaced at 21.500 km in 2010. Is that not very very soon? And can that tell me something about the car or previous owner?

And were tinted windows an option or should this be window foil? I have to remove this because I cannot get this car approved in my Country

You may want to give us more information about the car if you want opinions.

Clutch life is wholly dependent on usage and not necessarily an issue .... although that does seem low to me.

When you say tinted windows, what do you mean and which ones. If blacked out, then no not an option. If a light tint (i.e. no clear) it could be factory.

A proper inspection is the way forward. If you tell us where you are, you may get some recommendations

Ok clutch replacement at 21.500 kms does not have to be an issue that is good to know. I cannot give more information about this topic as this is all I know.

About the windows these are not fully blacked out, but more tinted than normal. Knowing that a light tint is an option you could choose for a Gransport, I have to take that into account that buying this car can make it a lot more expensive to prepare for the Dutch road.

My first clutch was 98.5k miles, Waterford - Dublin daily driver, motorway between but Dublin not clutch-friendly for sure......

As above there have been some clutch failures at low mileages but this was normally down to tang failure rather than clutch wear. Most of these failure all seemed to happen around the same time which pointe to a faulty batch not heard about a tang failure for sometime

Tinted windows were not an option from the factory so it's been Kevved up . And there was a batch of dodgy clutches about 5 years ago that broke very early . These have all gone now so you should be okay . Where has it been serviced?

You're too on original clutch!?
Uncertain. When i bought the car November 2014 it had squeak / chirp when taking up the drive. Was advised by Roberto Grimaldi "it might soon need a clutch".
Mcgrath advised in 2016 the clutch showed 86% used at 82k miles
I have not replaced it myself and showing 100k miles. For certain it will need a clutch at some point.........soon-ish

That could be a good clarification, but I guess that the clutch was stock as the car had just 21.500 kms at that time. But the problem should be solved now.

The squeak noise you mention is exactly like mine. The verdict for me is that it is likely from the clutch bearing and that it may go away with use but certainly doesn't worth opening up the thing to change "just" the bearing. Great to hear from others that been there and persevered!

The squeak or hoot is from the pilot bearing in the end of the crank. It’s more of an irritance than an impending failure if you can live with it.

From memory, I think I got about 20,000 miles out of my GranSport before it needed a new clutch (I think I replaced it twice in 3 1/2 years) ...

Not really. My GS did 44k on its first clutch. GTs somewhere around 40k and around the same for QPs. Some are driven very carefully or don’t do many gear changes.

I had my first clutch changed at 47k and then I was f*cked over by an Indie to have it changed again at about 62k but, despite assurances that the tangs had gone, by the time I saw later in the day the tangs had recovered back to normal. I’m now on 75k but use a different Indie. Let’s be careful out there.

Indeed. what percentage of a good clutch is acceptable to throw away?
Easy for me to say as the QP is not the only car in our household. If I was sensible then a new clutch would have been fitted soon safer buying for peace of mind. I still have that peace of mind and have spent the £2500 on fuel, tyres and "stuff".
All depends on the appetite for risk of the driver.
