Gransport interior retrim

Hi all,
I have finally taken the plunge and purchased a Gransport! Mechanically the car is sound but the interior needs work.

Do to the poor state I was planning to replace all the blue technocloth with leather across seats, dash, headlining, doors and gaiters. I was going to keep the grey leather just changing the inserts.

Has anyone done this before and any colour recommendations?

Oooh, I think we know that car.

There's a thread around where it *may* be possible to get the tech cloth. I've not replaced the leather myself, but I doubt any half decent auto-upholsterer would have too much trouble. Might also be worth watching ebay. Full interiors come up occasionally.

Enjoy, anyway :)

I'd consider alcantara for the MCVictory look. It's cheaper than leather and looks great. I'd cover the dashtop too.

Im working on the tech cloth. Maserati has a strong grip on this cloth. The supplier im working with, thru all his contacts, ended up all the way to Maserati factory. So im not sure at this point how this will work out. If it were me with your car, if mileage is low id keep it original. If your not concerned about that id change it to leather or all vinly. Remember that the only part that is leather on the seats is the inserts ( where ur blue tech is) all the rest is vinyl. I know this for certain as I had them apart.

I know it's been talked about lots on here and seem to remember someone saying it costs around £2000 to replace the cloth for leather...May have even been Matt that said it.

Welcome, Jamhot. I agree with Outrun. Alcantara is a great look and the dash covered as well would be terrific.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I don't know what the pricing will be over there. I had both of my Spyder seats done in the same type of leather, and it was only $1200 USD, to kind of buttress what Larry (Lorenz) was saying. It was his thread I hyperlinked. I didn't have the cloth but the leather wasn't looking good on the seats. I physically took the seats out of the car and brought them to the place though, I never showed them the car. I always avoid showing pics, or telling the person what type of car they came out of. I referred to it as an older model Spyder I was doing restoration work on. This keeps the person from seeing dollars or pounds in your case when they see the car. The only problem with this situation is I don't see you tearing all the trim items off yourself unless you are handy with tools. So one of the guys above is probably correct about what it's going to cost. As long as money isn't as much of a concern to you as looks you should be fine!

The expensive item is the dash as I understand it will need to come out...as such I would suggest doing it all.

Going to a trimmer on Friday for some quotes, i am considering doing the whole lot but wasn't aware the dash would have to come out though!

Dashtop removal is easy, it's the front section with the blue tech cloth that is a pain. I'd chance the breakers and see if anyone happens to have one around. Might be a whole lot easier.

Hi Jamhot,

I looked at this car, and the reason for not buying was that the interior I thought needed a bit of work, but outside it was immaculate, and Paulo seemed a very nice genuine chap. I actually liked the colour of the interior, most of it i thought just needed a clean, just the seats that needed a bit of work.

Congratulations on a very nice gransport, for what i imagine was a very nice price....

cheers Kev.

There is a forum member who can sort out your rings, he has a advert on ebay.

I would leave the interior as is as the cost will out see the benefits come re sale unless you go for full leather and that is (from my quote earlier this year) £3k You would be wise to save the money for a good detail, Project Karma looked after my last two Masertis. Also it provides you with the funds to fix any other issues that may come up.

PS Saw you on Thursday on the ring road near Emersons Green, waved but no response!

Sorry it I missed you, was my first long drive in a GS so was concentrating lol.

I would leave the interior if it was in good condition but it is so tatty it will cost me a few hundred just to replace a couple of leather panels.

I went to a trimmer place yesterday and came up with a plan to replace the blue technocloth with dark blue leather, leaving the Existing grey leather intact. I am awaiting a quote on that.

One issue worries me about the car, it just had a new clutch fitted by Dick Lovetts but it makes a rattling chains noise sometimes when pulling away in 1st and 2nd. Any ideas? The good thing is that I am based very near Grimaldi in Halstead.
