I was also amazed tbh, especially when he explained that I would realise that they were doing the fair thing by keeping a contribution from me...lol. I would have thought their reputation for customer service and chance of getting more business from me/mates would be worth more to them..... Ahh well

Wow!!....... I agree with what Phil has said, that they have improved the car now to sell to another increasing the saleability. Why should you foot the bill for that??!!

I've not had dealings with ADG and people here have spoken well of them in the past.
Can I ask if Emblem's report was withheld from the paperwork when you viewed?
I wasn't certain from your post, and perhaps a genuine oversight by ADG, but if not is this outcome surprising.
Although withholding part of the deposit for the reason given is hardly going to do them any favours.

Yes they did not share it when I went to view, I got it myself that same evening and then approached David @ ADG next morning. He confirmed that they had it but it wasn't left with the pack/invoices shown to buyers. Wjen I subsequently mentioned the report to Alistair, he tried to deny its existence until I mentioned David had already admitted them getting it with the car, to me previously.

Shame this happened. Most prospective buyers would be really pleased to see an Emblem report with a car and then see which of the reported items were subsequently addressed and which outstanding. Then work with the seller on which of those to look at or negotiate on. The list at the time of writing would have been all-encompassing and common sense would allow those more trivial matters not be part of that conversation. Either way, each party has the right to withdraw or not negotiate further but at least it would have been done in a totally transparent way.

I am not sure why the experience with this dealer would make you change your mind about buying a GS, just buy one from someone else.

As for them withholding part of the deposit they’re right to do so will either be in their T’s and C’s or not. If it’s in then so be it, if it’s not in the T’s and C’s the you should not accept them keeping it.
