That's the odd thing, you can't hear this in the cabin.
Hmmm... I understand that the wear that causes the AC compressor rattle is due to either the main pulley bearings or internal shaft within the housing. If it is not the AC compressor (which sound tests should have isolated already), then possibly another rotating part with worn/wearing bearings? Complete speculation on my part!

Hey guys so it's update time.

In short it's still not fixed.
Aldous can't find the problem, he's checked everything and come up short, the only way to fully determine the problem would be to strip the engine down.

Now although he's come back saying there's no potential damage to the engine, the problem still remains, If Aldous can't find or fix the problem then I'm driving a ticking bomb.

The dealer I bought the car from has offered a complete refund Inc the cost of the warranty and new tyres I fitted.
They're not happy with the outcome either so will be selling the car into trade.

I'm absolutely gutted, I've fallen in love with the GTS, so I'll now be looking for another 1, possibly even a Stradle if I can find one.

Wow that's a shame and the mechanic in me would love to see it stripped and check everything.
Obviously time consuming and would be costly with labour and parts cost to reassemble.

So sorry to hear this! This is indeed gutting news. Especially after all the love you have poured into this car.

I'm truly gutted, as you sat I've put so much time into the car, but rather this happened now than further down the line.

When looking for another q should I be concerned about further problems, I've found one that been in storage for 4 yrs, but I assume that's also a potential problem???

Never nice to hear, must be gutting.
However, think yourself very lucky.
If this had materialised a few months down the line, you'd be stuck with a massive headache and an even bigger bill!

Use it as an opportunity, and really take your time to find the one you want..... And if you can push the budget that far, a Strad would ease the pain I would think ;)

Sorry to hear this, what an absolute bummer after all the work you have put in.
Clearly it’s not viable to strip down the engine so you have made the right decision.
Good on the dealer for offering a full refund inc outlays.
Best of luck finding a new one and look forward to following the progress.

These cars are generally very reliable apart from the well documented issues that you will already be aware of. Engine problem are rare.

Personally, I always look for a car that has been regularly used, as they don't like to just stand about. Even if you want a low mileage one, get one that has done a few K every year, as apposed to one that's been stored for years.

Your current one, in storage for 4 years.... Do you think the person that took it out of storage did it correctly? Or just turned the key to see if it started?
Think of all those dry bearings and metallic parts grinding together until the oil pressure was up.

Personally, I wouldn’t be overly concerned about a stored car. Let’s face it, cars that do 1000 miles a year are mostly stored. Depending on how and where it was stored it might have been started fairly regularly. If not, bearings never fully dry out, so you are looking at the difference between one start with less oil or 100s of cold starts, still with no oil pressure but a bit more of an oil film. Modern oils are pretty phenomenal in this respect.

Things like condition, battery age, brakes and wheel bearings would concern me more, but if they’re good, they’re good.

Sorry to hear this but good luck with the search for the next one - good to see that you have been bitten by the bug and not scared off

Gutted for you - at least the dealer is doing the right thing, or it would be a whole lot more pain.

Tbh, it has scared me a little..
I don't blame you at all. For what it's worth, I do think most of the 'endemic' issues with more modern Maseratis are known so it would be very unlucky to come across another example of an 'undiscoverable' issue.

I still feel awfully gutted for you and hope stars may align for you to get back into a Maserati. I was awfully lucky myself when the variator issue reared its head whilst the main dealer had my car and then ended up sorting it - so it is great that your dealer is helping.

You have made a great contribution to the forum and I certainly hope that can continue.

Sorry hear of your troubles buddy, don’t let it put you off, these are awesome cars.

Nice to see the dealer making good on the deal.

Would it be fair to publish the reg no after your refund so no-one else on here is burnt?

Seems a bit 'hmmm' if it gets fixed? Sounds like it would be difficult to hide it (Oatmeal in the gearbox anyone?)

But it's a fair shout
