And still look great….I have driven a Sport 400 and loved it so the R must turn that up to 10. A very different car to the GT and more chuckable on your favourite twisty road I would say. Drive one and see what you think….Some will say that it isn’t a special as the GT but on looks alone for me they are owning….What’s not to like two seats, pretty, pretty body and a V8….

Understand your logic, they are my sort of plan B if I get sick of Maserati parts prices. The only two things that have stopped me driving one are that they look like they missed a bit off the back and the fact that it weighs too much for its size. I really wish they had just updated the XKR really as it’s proportions were better. All IMHO.

New version is muted in comparison to the 1st gen cars. They are much lighter than the AM Vantage too.

Lots of cars seem to be struggling with the former due to GPFs so I guess you try and get one before they came in. As for the weight thing are you sure?

They look good on the road to me but RG had one and next to the GTSs he had in stock it was dull IMO. Interior not special. Answer is probably to drive one, usually different in reality....

Agree with that but they are still a great looking car which just shows how wonderful the GranTurismo is. The thing is the F Type is still a production car so if I wait for my ten year old GranTurismo to fall apart I will be able to pick up a relatively fresh used F Type - the 450PS V8 would do - to see out the ICE car phase of life.

I see them all the time as there is a JLR showroom by my office. And I have to say they do nothing for me looks wise.

The top of the range one with all it's pops and bangs just strikes me as it is trying too hard.

I'm sure they're great to drive, but it's just not for me.

I like them very much. I think the old-shape Vantage is a nicer looking car, but the F-type looks better than the new-shape Vantage. Ben's V8-R FWD thing is a monster. He's done work on it but it goes and handles like an absolute weapon. Also, the interior is a very nice place to be. More comfortable and better equipped than my Vantage, and with a far nicer layout than the new Vantage.

In case you wonder why I compare the F-Type with Vantage rather than a GTS, it's because they're more similar and I have driven Vantages more recently. Overall I'd say the F-Type would of course be an utterly different driving experience to the GTS, but would lack the style and flair.

I see F types only occasionally and usually think oooh what’s that car? Oh, only a Jag.

Quite by chance my 80 year old Dad has just come home swooning over an XK-R he saw in town. Parked closed by was an F type convertible which he thought looked ugly.

I guess it’s horses for courses again.

The XKR is a wonderful-looking car, and ageing extremely well. In fact, all XKs are ageing well. Looks-wise, at least. I'd say it's more elegant than the F-type, but serves a different market. With the exception of Ben, I'd imagine most F-type owners to be young, virile, good-looking, suave debonnaire and pretty **** sophisticated (but not as much as Vantage owners). XK owners much the same + 3-4 decades. ;-)

As Mr Crud has said, I’ve picked up a 2017 facelift Type R Cab. I was unsure what it was going to be like because I couldn’t drive it before I bought due to COVID restrictions. Having owned it for about 7 months I can give a reasonable opinion as to what they are like; really very, very good. If it had a trident on the grille it would be my perfect car, the fact it hasn’t can’t alter the fact that it’s a very capable drivers car. Having done a track day in it on a baking hot day, it behaved impeccably; the brakes didn’t fade, the engine ran perfectly, it handled very well given its size, and surprised more exotic cars through the corners and down the straights.

Granted, it’s no longer standard; it has 200 cell cats (instead of 800s), stage 2 tune with a smaller supercharger pulley, and now has full poly bushing. It’s pushing out about 625bhp and the power is instant and the mid range plentiful. On track I reckon it was getting about 4mpg but on a run, due to the long geared 8 speed ZF box, the most I’ve got to date is 38mpg. The interior is really quite nice, roomy, well put together and a few toys. The sound is just lovely and lots of it, with a few pops and bangs on the overrun if you fancy it.

Downside; with the cab, it’s the boot space. The coupe is quite a bit better than the cab but still not massively roomy.

Overall; I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending one. I just know that my spyder will feel lacking the next time I drive it and I like to think the F Type R is what a next gen 4200 would be like. Do it!!

The F-Type is a great looking car. Especially from the rear three quarter.
I think this every time I overtake one in my Strad. ;)

SVR will murder a GTS and it will take time toy get used to the ferocity of it. I had one for a weekend and loved it, only bit that got me was the way it tried to settle the car with it's advanced yaw control and active braking system at high speeds. Turn the traction off at any available opportunity. It's a car that will take time to inspire some confidence that is for sure.
