It will be ok but going up against the Macan is a tough ask straight out the box.

GranTurismo and this are the key cars that will shape the company going forward. Fingers crossed they nail it.

Really hope they do Matt. I am not a fan of them bringing out a small SUV but it makes more sense to me than the Levante in the big scheme. Macan is a great drivers SUV and if Maserati can nail it then they could have a winner. Thy just need to convince most of the buying public as well though and not just us. But like you I am looking forward to seeing what the replacement for the GT is as currently the range is lacking in many ways and the cars I loved in the range are from 14 years plus ago.

I'm hoping for an announcement about a revised Maserati dealership network in the UK, otherwise any new model will be pretty much irrelevant here.

It all comes down to marketing, really.

That’s the biggest ask, going up against Porsche.

They need this to make it work but dealership groups won't invest unless they see sales and you then get stuck in a circular argument and no one gets traction. Look at Alfa Romeo over the last three or so years in the UK, a nice range of cars but limited sales volume. Maserati will be the same, unfortunately.

The reason I say this is that having driven a couple of them the Levante is a really good car in its space but it does not sell. The Grecale will be the same...unless they price it well and include a five year service pack in the price. However, they will price it high still charge a lot for servicing and then after a couple of years of sales not meeting forecast start filling the dealers up with unordered stock that they need to offer at £15-20k under list to move. This just makes buyers suspicious so they have a test drive followed by a nice espresso on a cream Italian sofa and say bye and go and get a 'Porsche' built in a VW factory.

This all over... they are killing the dealer network sending unwanted stock they can't shift... must be hitting residuals hard. Who's buying Ghiblis now?

From all accounts the Stelvio is a great car and is a better foundation for a sports CUV than an Audi Q5 like the Macan has done. Sadly Maserati tends to miss the mark with the launch of some its newer cars (save for the MC20) so hoping they get it right this time.

Quite true, but is it too much to hope that somewhere along the way the penny will finally drop and that Stellantis will do something about it, or will we see Maserati consigned to the history books for the umpteenth time?

Thing you cannot argue with on any porsche vs maserati is the trade in value and deprecation. Porsche just holds it value so much better from 1-6 yrs. The dealers are happy to trade the Porsche more as a result as they get more money on 2nd hand value with the porker. Also its still in 90% of peoples head that a maserati will rust/breakdown/implode which always hurts sales and deprecation.

You say that as do all the magazines etc but they tend to look at depreciation relative to basic list price. Compared to what you actually pay, the depreciation is not that different with Maserati like high end BMW and Mercedes typically costing a fair bit less than list and Porsche a lot more with limited or zero discounts and lots of options added to most cars.
