Maserati Gransport LE Spec
The Maserati GranSport is a modified version of the Coupé that was first unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. It is equipped with aerodynamic body cladding, a chrome mesh grille, carbon fibre interior trim, and special 19-inch wheels. It uses the Skyhook active suspension, with a 0.4 inch (10 mm) lower ride height, and the Cambiocorsa transmission is recalibrated for quicker shifts. The exhaust is also specially tuned to "growl" on start-up and full throttle.
It is powered by the same 4244 cc, 90° V8 petrol engine used on the Coupé. However, the engine develops 400 PS (294 kW; 395 hp) at 7000 rpm and around 450nm torque due primarily to a different exhaust system and other improvements on the intake manifolds and valve seats. The Gransport has Max Speed of 180mph and 0 to 60mph in 4.9sec (claimed). The engine was that good it was used by Ferrari in the F430. A six-speed paddle shift F1 transmission comes as standard. The car is 178.1 inches (4,520 mm) long, 71.7 inches (1,820 mm) wide, 51.0 inches (1,300 mm) high and weighs 3,704 pounds (1,680.1 kg).

This (mine) Gransport is very smooth and a joy to drive.

I purchased the GS back in 2011, it wasn't my first choice, I was looking at RS4 being an Audi fan but saw a few Maserati and loved the look and sound. Not thinking I could even afford one, let alone run one.
I was surprised to see the cost of them and I'm surprised now about the cost to run one, no were near as expensive as expected and no issues that have put me off (hence why I still own her 11 years later).

Decided to go and look at a Maserati 4200 as it was within my budget but after seeing a GS in person, man maths just took over and I put a deposit on my 2nd GS I looked at, until I saw mine which had lot more options and better history. So swapped without even giving her a full look over.

What a journey I had head of me... best ever, even after only one issue that nearly broke the bank.

I joined the SM forum which has been fantastic and the GS has opened so many doors to meet great people from the forum - well you always have one person who spoils things but we all love you Benny :)

I quickly found out that this GS had a few minor issues and was owned by a super model / Maserati race drive as 1st owner - sadly she didn't come with the car.
My mission was to turn the GS completely around, I think I did this by the time we did the forum 2014 Maserati Centenary Trip (one of my best highs in ownership)

102205

Anyway I've been on 3x european trips with the GS, one being about 1,800 mile round trip and didn't miss one beat on any of them, if anything the GS got better the more we drove.

I’ll start with the bad parts...

Bad Parts
  • The car has done just over 81,000 miles but you won't think so by the condition or the way she drives. (I don’t think this is bad and these mileage Maserati‘s with great history seems to be a better option according to feedback on the forum.)
  • LH cam cover has a mark which was done before paint cured - doh!
  • a few bolts under the car have some rust but the rest is almost rust free. (car underside was in great condition but to keep her in tip-top SI applied undercoat)
  • The wheels are all in good shape but have a few minor marks - I looked at getting these done, the process would remove a few microns off the wheel. so I decided not to get them done as only minor marks and would perfer to have material on the wheels.
  • Small section of headlining has started to sag
  • The interior parts have recently started to become sticky - I can remove the coating prior to collecting but will leave upto the new owner if they decide they want It done differently
102206

Good Bits
  • Bodywork is in top condition for her age and mileage with the odd stone chip
  • Interior is also in great condition for her age and mileage with very minor wear and tear marks on the drivers seat
  • Engine cam area is almost new, no browning from where oil got very hot (have photos if needed)
  • all wishbones have been check by Maserati independents and Dealer over the years and all reported no issues.
  • used Shell V-Power or BP Ulitmate (no supermarket or low grade petrol used)
Major Repairs
  • The gearbox failed about 2 yrs after owning, this was replaced with one which had done about 12,000 (~43,000 less than the GS) (cost was almost a phone number)
  • The rear panels under the lights had bubbled, the rust area was removed and replaced with fresh metal and repainted
  • The Solenoids on both banks have been replaced plus the Accumulator and both value covers gaskets

Repairs (out side of service) Half these parts were replaced not because of issues but to keep the GS in top condition.

I've done a lot of work to bring her back to showroom standard over the years and only used main dealers or well known approved independents for maintenance. The Gransport has been a garage queen but she has been used, as you can tell from the mileage, but only driven in dry weather (Unless caught in the rain).
She is in top condition and ready for a new enthusiast., to drive - enjoy - smile a lot and keep her clean please ;)

I've only used original Maserati / Ferrari parts which I suspect are mostly Alfa / Fiat but twice the cost.

She has been in Auto Italia magazine and I have a signed photos from her first owner the car enthusiast, supermodel owner and Maserati race driver.

She comes with her original PRIVATE PLATE plus lots of extras.

Options
  • Xenons
  • Fully working Tracker (is an active system)
  • Fully leather interor
  • Leather headliner
  • Diamond cut wheels
  • Silver brake caliper
  • Auditorium 200 System / SATNAV
  • Cruise Control
  • Parking Sensors (rear)
  • Electric front seats / drivers side has memory option
  • Heated front seats
  • Maserati Toolkit
  • Maserati Air unit
Upgrade Parts
I've keep her standard with the following minor changes:
- Auditorium 200 head unit has been replaced with the later bluetooth upgrade unit with added USB MP3 player, this will give you 590 songs per USB stick and is hot-swappable
- The USB MP3 player replaces the CD changer which is still fitted and can be re-instated if needed

102209

I know a lot of sellers say I may change my mine about selling and totally get it - I've noticed I'm not driving her as much as I used to (as you can tell from the history) so it's time.... yes it's time

any questions please ask away, happy to have any inspections or happy to arrange you to talk to the garages who have maintained her.

being looking at cost for GS and they range a lot, would you think 19-20k would be fair price?
Such a lot of car.
I could sell the other parts separate but thinking it would be something good for new owners experience.

There comes a time Enzo, question is…what is next?

FWIW, it was last serviced by me and I feel Enzo has been over picky. It’s a fabulous example and been meticulously maintained. Hats off to you.

GS back from SI after having 2nd yr service - no surpriseds:) and pass MOT with ease :)

Saw my first 599 GTO in person - looks so nice but 288 GTO is still the one for me.

Had a great drive home except when close to Oxford - 45mins to get through road works then into work... finally got home about 9:30pm - long day...

Services (update)
  • 2022 81,200 SportsItalia
  • 2023 81,700 SportsItalia (2nd yr service)
MOT
  • 2022 81,200 PASS
  • 2023 81,700 PASS

other than going to SI and back, can't believe I've done less than 500 miles... the oil was still like new but was replaced. was little worried as GS had been sitting around but got glowing review from the guys at SI.... (I suspect they say that to all the customers :) ) Their advice for any potential buyer, totally ignore the mileage on this GS....

for a quick sale I've reduced the price to £19,500
