Prices coming down then now ?
I remember all the talk on the red Trident.
He has spent some cash on maintenance though.

It was on ebay and I recall was sub £18k with a hole in the seat and a number of other issues...so even these have gone up in price wirh some remedial work.

I have been looking at the market for 3200/3200/GS and prices have stayed similar for GS while 3200 are all over the place (8k to 30k) and 4200 has been steady with perhaps a slight increase there is only one for sale for under 15k and top emd 22k searching between autotrader pistonheads and ebay

Well looked after cars seem to be getting much scarcer. I noticed at this year's meets there has been fewer M138 cars particularly 3200 and 4200s. This could be down to many of the enthusiasts have moved on to GS or GranTourismo...

It'd be interesting to hear the view of someone in the trade on this thread. I can only guess that prices vary so much based on mileage, history and condition and I'd guess that good GS cars in desirable colour, spec in addition to these factors will mean they command a high price.

My personal view is that although prices have gone up owners are only getting back what they have invested. For example mine has 'increased' in value by c£6k in the four years of ownership. It that same time I have spent roughly the same on maintenance and replacement of worn out items.

So look after your Maser and it will look after you and your wallet.

I’ve been intimating for a while I believe prices have plateaued for most, a few exceptional cars maybe moving without exposure to market, which obviously has no bearing on the market, regardless what some may say, they are taking longer and longer to sell and I don’t see them escalating for a while, and no I don’t want to talk them down, if I had a storage solution I would have one!

I think if its depreciation-free ownership that's good. If it gives a surplus after maintenance costs that's a real plus.
I still think there is a 'silent' pool of GS buyers who will pay top-price for good clean low mileage examples in good condition and provenance through specialists who are looking out for that pool of buyers - so some are bought and sold without even hitting the ads. This is not unique to this marque. Happens a lot with GT3 and Turbo Porsche cars also.

So seeing ads is probably not a reliable indicator of the market since it simply misses the silent transactions, giving a false view of the market and prices. Of course ads cannot show the condition - that is with a thorough inspection by a marque specialist with the diagnostics and ramp access and of course the experience of the model.

I'd agree with this as some cars will never hit an ad as would be sold within the offline community. However if this GS was one of those examples it would have been sold by now. The right cars are sold in days sometimes hours. This one hasn't sold yet so either the price is not quite right or the car isn't. Or maybe time of year or the right potential buyer hasn't seen it yet.

Either way it is still for sale which says something.

I have no idea about this particular example. I was making the clarification that watching ads may not be that reliable because they miss the condition and provenance that is shown up in a PPI; they miss the 'silent' pool of buyers for whom top dollar prices are paid through specialists to seek out pristine clean examples with scrutiny through a PPI and satisfied history, condition and mileage, specification required by the silent pool of buyers.

Timing also plays a role and there will be a seasonality cycle despite claims from specialists they run a 4 seasons business, not two seasons.

This is the sane with other marques as I have seen, with sellers hanging on till spring to sell and buyers perhaps the same or some buyers seeking to get a car now at discount.

Either way, good clean examples are usually the first to go at a higher price for sellers when such examples are not in abundance.

Totally agree regarding the good cars often enthusiast owned that sell before hitting the ads within the community but generally those follow market rates or better/worse depending on the condition...

I agree the ads don't confirm sale prices or sales at all. However it is a very useful visual indicator of market sentiment & price indications. The trade use it a great deal as well to gauge the market & to re-inforce what price to mark their retail sales for.

It takes a committed seller to ignore all the ads for similar vehicles & price theirs up much higher or lower. All the buyers out there are all seeing the same market & ads. If it has no differentiating usp or reason for a much higher or lower price the potential buyers might not even bother picking up the phone or keyboard.

There is always the exception but I guess getting this point across in the ad is the all important skill.

My brother has access to much more information about ads on Auto Trader as an example that we just don't see. As well as many other tools & information.

Like all things the market will always decide what it thinks of a car & what price they want to pay. We have very little influence if any over that.

I’m a new member as of New Year’s Eve 2017.

I just bought a 2006 GranSport Spyder for $28,400. It is red with back and red interior, 30,600 miles. Two owner car with clean CarFax. In very good condition; nearly showroom paint. Only flaw is the techno fabric on dah in front of the passenger.

Sounds a nice colour combo, add a pic please.

What is wrong with the tech cloth on passenger side?

My tech cloth is quite bright!
