I would call the break down rescue and get your back to the UK , otherwise all that is going to happen is your car been stuck there .
When I first picked up my 2010 MC-Shift 26.5k mile, mine couldn't find 1st once but this was on an incline and in AUTO. I've since not had any issues with manual operation. However, I do understand that the gearbox ECU can 'relearn' and I think mine done this as the car was not driven for a period while in the dealership. I'm no expert but the PIS may need recalibrated on your's.
Just coming back to close the loop on this. Went silent and tried to enjoy the holiday without wheels and left the car parked up for a while.
Eventually took it in gingerly to the nearest main dealer in France for a diagnostic read for any fault codes. They suggested doing a recode/relearn for the clutch (not entirely sure what that involves). Remarkably, that seems to have fixed the problem and made it back to the U.K. yesterday on its own steam, and able to find first gear even after a long 900km run. Only factors that may be different for the drive back are that I drove far more conservatively and through the night so 1) didn’t encounter any traffic and 2) it was far cooler than the day it had issues (15 degrees vs 35). Those probably help but it was a world apart for the run back. Not sure that’s the end of it all but for now am left confounded, infuriated and delighted by the car. And quarantined for good measure. Thanks to all for the suggestions, will be getting it looked at again as soon as I’m allowed out.
There were two fault codes identified: P1777 and P1778. There’s every chance my French is doing a total disservice to the technician’s attempts to explain things to me (he spoke no English and my French is abominable) so forgive me but those codes I think are insufficient pressure for the F1 pump and possibly a leak. He corrected those and advised to have them checked again back here and he that didn’t think they were that severe or the reason for the problem given how very marginally the pressure was low considering the miles done on the journey down.
Welcome any thoughts from anyone aware of those codes or how pump pressure would manifest in those symptoms just for 1st and reverse after a long run.
