GT Spare Keys - a solution

Hi all,

Prompted by the other fob thread! When I bought my GT it only came with one key and I knew this was going to be a problem - the thought of getting Timpson to clone it seemed like the only option but then knowing that its an Alfa at heart I did some digging and found a guy in the know. Basically the body computer is the same as an Alfa 147/GT, the keys have a rolling code for the immobilizer chip. Cloning can cause issues and also means you can't copy the remote function.

So, step forward my new contact - he can interrogate the body computer and retrieve the rolling code enabling the creation of a 'new key' with remote functionality (although the boot release doesn't seem to work sometimes). He is an Automotive locksmith and if interested I can put people in touch with him - cost is less than £200.

The bad news - he needs to remove the body computer to do it and solder on to it - I was brave but see below if you want to get into that!

Brave indeed!

Personally I'd just bite the bullet and get new keys but each to their own!

Can I ask how much your solution was? Curious, as you're not going to get a Maserati key, either?

I did get a Maserati key (copy) and an Alfa GT key as we were trialling the process - so I now have 3 keys!!

He charges just under £200 including cutting the key - but obviously you need to go to him (West Sussex) - takes about 2hrs

Hmmm. That is an attractive saving. Not sure I'd be brave enough, OTOH I'm thinking about keyless......
