Wow that's beautiful mate.
When I worked for Maserati in New Zealand we had one for sale in 2015 which was stunning in red for £25,000 and I remember people thinking how much.
Would have been a wise purchase.

It does look a nice example, although with a GT4 you need to have a very good ppi. I think I would be looking at later Ferraris at that price, and the seller is being somewhat cheeky when he says:

"It was put through an MOT test on 1 April 2020 at 66,467 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. An anti-roll bar link and driver’s seat fixing were attended to the day before."

Technically that's true, but:

if we all had a crystal ball, i almost bid on a really nice one some 3/4 years ago that had 40k spent on it, it hammered down at 22k

Perhaps, but if I was a potential buyer it would irritate me to find that a car that had so much work done failed the MOT for something as obvious as a loose driver's seat.

I do like the MGC he's listed.

That was the first Ferrari I ever went in, back in 1985 and even then I was underwhelmed. Slow, noisy and hot was my overriding impression. I reckon there are better ways to waste your money than that. Imo, for c£50k you’d be better getting a Lister-Bell Stratos; faster, better handling, better braking and better looking.

I suspect that there are even £10k cars that are faster, better handling, better braking (and arguably) better looking, than the 308 GT4. But that’s not really the point, is it? If it was, no one would buy a new Maserati. For some people, features such as style, panache, character, individuality, etc are equally, and possibly more important, when buying a car. The numbers show that more people would have a real (old) Ferrari over a fake (modern/copy) Lancia, but it’s certainly nice to have the choice.

Unfortunately, to me, it doesn’t have that style, panache, character that you mention. Like I said, it was the first Ferrari I ever went in and I desperately wanted to like it but I just couldn’t, it left me cold. Sure, some may lust after an old 308 of any sort and they are welcome to them, but as a driver most things would be better, even a fake (modern/copy) Lancia.

Lister Bell Stratos are great, my mates brother in law built a superb example.
Problem is you have to build it yourself or pay someone a lot of money to build it for you and not many are for sale ready built either, nor, are 308GT4's!

I took a long look at Red 77 Dino 308 in 1991 .. at the time they were pretty unloved and they were fairly cheap.. 15k ? from memory.. It looked ok but when you got close it was pretty road weary, had about 80k on the clock, rust was bubbling around the windscreen scuttle and surround, the drivers seat was pretty crushed / well worn and the once shiny wolfrace looking alloys were badly corroded... So I swerved it out of fear and went for a 1981 Porker 911 sc that turned out to be a decent find if a little temperamental. That Dino was around at that garage for about a year before it disappeared and I had to drive past it almost every day and regretting not taking a punt.

I love 308 GTBs, styling, switchgear, dash etc. Couldn’t find the same love for the GT4. That said, was discussing my love of the GTB with Miles at Emblem and he mentioned that you’d be much better off with a 328. Far less problematic. Still, not a dilemma unless someone wants to bung me £70K? What, no one, really. ☹️

I’ve been having a think about 308s and came to the (sad) conclusion I’d rather have that other much derided Ferrari 2+2, the Mondial. However, if, for some reason I had to buy one, it would have to be the Mondial T. To me, it’s the equivalent of being asked which you prefer, syphillis or gonorrhoea.
