GTS Transmission Differences

Hi All,

I am on the lookout for a GTS with MC Shift (circa 2009-2012). However, I’ve seen some cars advertised as a GTS (no mention of MC Shift) but without the auto gearstick, but with the Oval exhausts and packaged as a sport pack optional extra. On researching this the extras include the exhaust system as per the MC Shift, but I guess there are still 2 different gearbox systems? Is this correct or can you buy a GTS with the optional extras that add in MC Shift and the exhaust system?

Or do you not get MC Shift if the original car purchased was this model?

Hope this makes sense..........

GT - 4.2
GTS - 4.7 (applies to QP also QPS)

MC - F1 paddle shift
SPORT - Auto

4.7/GTS denoted by red accents in the nose and flank emblems.
Thank you.

See pic below of a car described as a 4.7 GTS but with MC design pedals. There is no mention of it being an MC Shift model, but it has the Oval exhausts and Sports external black trim (it’s a 2011 model). There is no auto gear lever, so is this an MC Shift model?

Yes. 1&R button is MC Shift. Gear lever is auto.

GTS is a little misleading. It is an abbreviation of Granturismo S. With a QP it’s the correct term as they make a QP Sport GTS. 2013MY onwards some call them GTS but most a GT Sport, abbreviation of Granturismo Sport, the official name for the facelift cars.

Thank you - now that’s clear it opens up a few more cars to ogle over.....
Generally speaking (there will always be some who disagree) if buying a 2010-2012 the MC Shift is preferable; 2013MY onwards, the Auto is preferred, with its confusingly named ‘MC Autoshift’ software.
This can be found on a 2012MY Auto with the optional sport package, signified by presence of oval exhausts and a gear lever.

You've got me there. Was the MC shift gearbox discontinued 2013 on, other than the stradale? Or the autobox got better? I'm wondering the logic here.

Definitely agree with the first part, as the Auto in the earlier cars lacks the character and sound that the GT deserves.
With the later cars, it totally depends on your preferred use for the car, as the Sport Auto is much closer in feel and sound to the MC-shift, but IMO still doesn't sound quite as good and doesn't give that hammer in the back gear change that I love. Sport Auto is perfect for a GT, but I like the sportier feel of the MC

It sounds like you want an MC-shift anyway.

2013 onward, they were sold as Sport Auto (different software mimic the MC shift sound and feel so was much better than the early auto).
MC-Shift after 2013 was an option, but there are only 46 of them in the UK. ;)

Why 2010-12 and not 2009-2012?

Just continuing this line of questions. I am currently having the same dilemma. Used to have an MC-Shift 2008 and loved the back growl on down change. I have a test drive in an 2016 Auto booked for Tuesday and suspect I'm going to be underwhelmed. Does this mean that to get the same feel as a 2008 MC-shift I'm going to have to stump up the extra £11k for an equivalent MC-Stradale? Also, I heard the Stradale doesn't have a non-Sport setting (enabling me to be considerate to the neighbours when I return home late) but I'm not sure that's true as it was a main dealer telling me that (who's trying to sell me the Auto)

I'd welcome everyone's thoughts/advice, thanks.

Stradale in sport mode closes the baffles, RACE mode is full noise.

The MC autoshift also blips the throttle on downshifts in sport mode
