GTS Transmission Differences

I’ve had all 3 versions.

4.2 auto with oval exhausts- also had the blip on downshifts but had a “fart” sound on upshifts

4.7 mc shift - best sound with the crackles and pops

4.7 mc auto? - in between the above 2 - I would have liked more crackles and pops. Wonder if an x pipe would fix that?

I can confirm the 4.7 mc auto (sport pack) with the x-pipe fitted does have crackles and pops! I have this combination. I’m in-awe of the super fast gear change too.

I do agree the 4.7 mc shift with the x pipe sounds better. My friend #Bladerunner has this combination

That’s a strange one as the 4.2 did not come with ovals from the factory. Did someone replace the back boxes?

Copied from a previous thread..

I wouldn’t bother with an MC shift if not in a Stradale, especially not over the later Sport gearbox, its excellent in all conditions, whereas the MC shift is excellent in only one condition.

I also really can’t imagine many people with the sport gearbox aren’t anything other than completely satisfied with the sound as is. It’s superb.

The fart is real lol

I have the grancabrio quad tips valved on my 4.2 A specialist told me there is also a difference in oval vs quad tip valved boxes. Which seemed weird to me. I suppose its more a 4.7 vs. 4.2 engine/gearbox combination that makes the difference in sound. I can't imagine they reworked the inside of the mufflers.

Guess we need a 4.7 grancab vs 4.7 coupe sound comparison to really know :p

For a more related question, would an 2007-2009 auto be able to use the later auto software?

Great film. Is your exhaust system standard, or does it have an X-Pipe fitted?
It had an x-pipe already fitted when I bought it from Dickie and he did warn me it was loud. But I’ve grown to live with it and love it....especially in sport mode :D

I meant as in beyond just adding an X-Pipe. The answer appears to be yes, but when searching on here I can’t find much info. With some marques modifying exhausts etc is frowned upon, so was just testing the water to see how it’s taken on here.

Those that want more noise than just an xpipe, tend to go the larini race cats route.

Just be mindful, that with each exhaust mod you make, you loose a little of that deep classy tone (that you probably fell in love with in the first place) you gain volume, more pops and crackles and more rasp.

This is a 4.7 with X pipe and empty rear boxes. It now has Larini sports cats as of last Tuesday but not done any vids yet

All in jest. We have the full range of views (and exhaust pipe mods) on here! I have an x-pipe.... which makes it raspier but sometimes miss the more mellow smoother sound of the silenced X-pipe. I think the standard Strad exhaust in any mode (standard/sport/race) is sublime. It has both the mellowness and the volume!

Cheers for that.

Do straight pipes instead of an X keep the sound less raspy?
