Headlight Washer Cover

OK so in putting my car to bed for the winter and throwing over its nice new cover I managed to catch an edge on the headlight washer cover - it has just come unclipped as opposed to broken. And as the unit itself inside its hidey hole is arranged to swivel and 'give' there's no way to push it back so that the two clips engage the unit. I eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to do this was to operate the headlights, operate the windscreen wash and then kill the power as the washer extends..................... many times of repeating this and I have yet to succeed in catching the bugger when it pops out! its a bit like an old cuckoo clock the way it pops out and scurries back! Any ideas to force it to stay out would be welcomed! (I'm running out of patience AND washer fluid!)

Can you not pull it out with some pliers? I've never looked at a maser one but all the others I've come across are spring loaded and pushed out by the water pressure.

Done this a few times... you need another person to operate the wash whilst you grab.

Or put a bit of string round the stalk and through the steering wheel and out to the front of the car so you can operate it yourself.

I also suggest you film your attempts and semd off to ITV for a £200 bonus as it will be fun watching you get soaked each time.

Can you set up a go pro next time you attempt, need some humour today :D
Hope you beat it soon.

It's like that fairground thing 'Whack a Mole' I've given up for now in disgust!

Long nose pliers to pull it out.

Saves you getting wet. Unless you do it in the rain of course.

Thanks. At least now I understand it's pressure driven rather than mechanical. Now I don't need to sneak up on it I can put away the torch and camouflage gear :)

I had this, in the end I got my wife to operate the washer jets whilst I grabbed onto it. Then she took over holding it out whilst I put it back on. Another tip I did (I think I got it from Saf, MrC or Rockits) was prior to fixing it back on tie it onto the connection point with some catgut or a material string that will not degrade so that if it happens again, you won't loose it as I did. I think it cost about £20 plus getting it resprayed the same colour.
