Heater controls & air-con dead

All fine until GS not used for 2 weeks
Then air con and heater controls all inop. Eco and recirculation buttons also inop.
E on display followed by dots.
Drove car for about half an hour and all suddenly starts working again.
Two days later same thing happens. Tried battery reset, swapping all relevant relays and fuses but to no avail. And hasn't started working after a drive.
Any ideas chaps?
Thanks
K99

Thanks for the suggestion but no joy, the whole panel seems to be dead apart from the background lighting.

I had a lot of problems over winter with condensation. My drive slopes towards the house and I found that the condensation on the windscreen was dripping onto the central panel. Not sure of it but combined with a battery that was weakened due to inactivity I had various items stop working including the indicators.

I managed to fix by carrying out the battery reset, and parking facing the house so that any drips ran down the screen. Of course the best way was to give it a run to get shot of the moisture in the car and charge up the battery. Not replaced the latter yet but think I'll be getting a new one before winter as the car is now 4 years old and it looks like the original battery. I don't use my car regularly so that doesn't help.

I wouldn't have thought condensation would have been an issue in teh current weather we've had, but I thought I'd share my woes with you.

If your getting condensation that bad in the car Khamsin, Im guessing your door seals are shot, or there is some other point of entry for rain/moisture. An 06 coupe shouldnt be subject to the amount of condensation you describe

Hi Khamsin, Though Dunscot could well be right, it could also be that you need to re-gas your aircon and/or your aircon system is blocked (It's not uncommon). A re-gas is a simple and in-expensive procedure and there is a thread in tech fixes that shows you how to clear any blockages in the aircon system, whether it be at the main fan, the pollen filter or the drain. I also had a similar experience last Autumn and I was staggered how quickly it cleared once I 'purged' the system. Definitely worth looking at whilst the weather is generally warm. Cheers, Miles.

Hi K99, This is a guess but for what is not a lot of work, it might be worth a try...

I wonder whether there is a safety cut-out? If you remove your wipers and unscrew the plastic 'facia' beneath you will reveal the main aircon fan which (on the 4200 anyway) is covered in a mesh. This is prone to getting completely clogged with leaves and debris (from there debris can also be sucked into the fan and on into the internal ducting). If this were the case I can imagine that it could throw a safety cut-out? If you managed to get it going after a drive, then you may be able to rescue it by clearing the blockage (if this is indeed the cause), but I'd advise you to check it sooner rather than later, as otherwise you could be looking at a burnt out fan. Hope this helps. Cheers, Miles.

It was a real bad winter, once the car was used it was ok.
Door seals are good, just bad owner not using the car enough. I kept turning the car over on the drive for short stints, and I don't think the car had much chance of drying out quickly enough.

I did have the pollen filter replaced during service, as was the wiper motor. But the guys did clean out in there.

The drain is good as I've noticed a drip under the car during the warm weather as the air con condensed. Also no puddle in the car either. Also car cools quickly when air con turned on.

But thanks for the advice guys. As I've noticed a slight turn in the weather at the start of the day, I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens this autumn.

Hi Bal, That's good to hear that it's not a blocked aircon! Mine also lives outside, but I have the luxury of driving it every day, which tends to keep everything damp free.

So for your malady the doctor prescribes - LOTS OF MASERATI DRIVING. :)

Cheers, Miles.

Oh Yes, I like that prescription !
I'm using it once a week now as I have to work Saturday's. Nice run on a bit of motorways around Brum, and then a A road to Warwick. Great first thing in the morning when you can enjoy driving like it used to be, i.e no cameras, just gotta watch out for tractors....

I had not prepared for winter and when I used to run it on the drive I'd have the doors open as the glas was frozen. This year I plan to follow Loz's steps.

Hope you get your issues sorted K99

Cheers

Definately got to use ANY car with a V8 Khamsin.... keeps the nasties away, and glad to hear nothing serious wrong with your car... but you've definately got to use it more to let all the fluids heat up

Ooh you sweet talker you! Definitely. I'm just currently trying to persuade myself to take next Thursday off so I can fettle the motor. I think I still have your number in my phone so I'll call you on Thursday to arrange.

Hi Andrew.

I'm working at the council builings at the mo. Not sure if I can get out next week as we are in the midst of a migration, which takes place towards the end of the week. As such if I can get away I'll try to come across, but can't promise.

Any time you fancy a meet up I'm game. I usually bring the car in on a Saturday so that would be a perfect time. But I can't guarantee a time due to the migrations, currently finiishing up around 5pm.

As for the Khamsin, well that's having an engine rebuild, see classic thread for details.
